About The Department:
The Department of Psychology (https://psychology.gmu.edu/) boasts over 1,700 undergraduate majors (BS, BA), 330 graduate students (PhD, MA, MPS), and 50 full-time faculty. About The Position:
The Tenure-Track Assistant Professor, within the Cognitive and Behavioral Neuroscience program in the Psychology department, will have expertise at the intersection of Artificial Intelligence (AI) (e.g., deep neural networks and large language models) and neuroscience. The Assistant Professor should have an interest in bringing new methods in AI to neuroscience, and/or using findings/data from neuroscience to develop new AI solutions. This might include investigation in connection with neuroimaging, computational models of cognition, genetics, or other related areas.
The position is expected to teach and advise at the graduate and undergraduate level, engage in scholarly activities and provide service at the departmental level. This position is expected to develop an internationally recognized and extramurally funded research program, participate in the department's PhD and MA programs, and contribute to the department’s excellence in undergraduate education.
Responsibilities:
- Conducts scholarly research in the field of cognitive and behavioral neuroscience. Research is expected to be published in peer-reviewed scientific journals;
- Teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in the Cognitive and Behavioral Neuroscience program in the Psychology department; and
- Participates in service to the department.
Required Qualifications:
- Terminal degree in a related field. Candidates who will have degree conferred prior to the first day of employment will be considered eligible for this position;
- PhD in Psychology, Neuroscience or related field prior to the first day of appointment;
- Experience teaching (or support teaching) in an undergraduate, Master’s, or PhD program in a Psychology department or related field;
- Experience teaching (or support teaching) in-person and online;
- Knowledge of cognitive and behavioral neuroscience discipline;
- Ability to employ research methods in cognitive and behavioral neuroscience to conduct original research; and
- Proficiency in teaching topics in cognitive and behavioral neuroscience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), broadly defined, as applied to neuroscience research;
- Experience in teaching courses in AI and neuroscience at both the undergraduate and graduate levels;
- Knowledge of advanced quantitative methods;
- Knowledge of the use of AI, broadly defined, as applied to neuroscience research;
- Proficiency in using AI, broadly defined, for neuroscience research; and
- Proficiency in teaching courses in AI and neuroscience at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
