About The Internship:
WSI is excited to offer a 6 month paid Internship opportunity to support your development as you work towards your university degree. As an intern you’ll work with passionate people who will mentor and train you with their knowledge and experience and be an important part of the team to take Sydney’ new airport to the world in 2026.
The Operations Innovation & Resource Management team is a small focused group, primed with the responsibility to lead and assist the Operations team in the delivery of WSI through a wide portfolio of activities aimed at ensuring the right resources with the right levels, delivered at the right time.
The intern will support the team in areas including workforce modelling, resource allocation, time and attendance systems, through assisting in the organisation, planning and delivery of activities as well as assisting in the management of documentation and a variety of administrative activities. The role will develop with the individual appointed and based on their interests and learning needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Workforce Planning & Resourcing
- Assist in developing workforce models aligned to operational scenarios and passenger forecasts
- Support rostering simulations and shift pattern analysis for key airport functions
- Contribute to resource allocation plans across terminals, airside, landside, and support services
- Help validate staffing levels during trial operations and live simulations
Operational Readiness & Testing (ORAT)
- Participate in trial exercises simulating real-world airport operations
- Assist in capturing data and feedback from stakeholders during ORAT trials and other activities
- Help document lessons learned and contribute to readiness reporting – disseminating as required
Innovation & Process Design
- Support the design and testing of new workflows, digital tools, and service delivery models
- Research global best practices in airport workforce innovation and automation
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across operational teams
Data & Systems
- Work with workforce planning software and dashboards to analyse performance metrics
- Assist in preparing reports, visualisations, and presentations for stakeholders
- Help maintain databases and ensure data integrity across planning systems
- Collect and analyse data to support decision-making.
- Assist in the implementation and optimisation of digital tools and asset management systems.
- Contribute to data cleansing, standardisation, and reporting tasks.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Collaborate with internal teams including Operations, HR, IT, Resilience and Compliance, Safety and Sustainability
- Attend cross-functional meetings and assist in preparing briefing materials
- Support engagement with external partners such as airlines, ground handlers, and government agencies
Work Arrangements:
- Start date: asap
- Part time: 3-4 days/week over 3 - 6 months depending on university study workload and other circumstances
- Place of work: WSI’s Luddenham or Liverpool offices, depending on business requirements

About You:
- Currently pursuing a degree in Business, Aviation, Human Resources, or related field.
- Strong analytical, problem solving and organisational skills.
- Proficiency in Excel; familiarity with workforce planning tools or data visualization platforms is a plus.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work as part of a team.
- Passion for aviation, operations, and innovation.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to manage time effectively and prioritise tasks.
- Willingness to learn and take initiative.
- Professional conduct and reliability.
- An enquiring mind.
- Ability to complete corporate training and induction processes
- Must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident
- Must be in year 2, 3 or 4 of an undergraduate degree qualification
- Own transport to attend offices at Liverpool or Luddenham
