Summary
The employee in this position serves in a mid/upper-level Maintenance and Grounds-Keeping role with a team of year-round staff who care for lawns, forests, buildings and projects along with regular maintenance. The employee will be responsible for assisting and overseeing in the care and appearance of the grounds and other facilities maintenance work as assigned by the Facilities and Grounds Director. The person in this position shall at all times work cooperatively with colleagues, leadership, staff and guests. The person in this position should be able to work alone or with team members as needed. Regular attendance and punctuality are essential for this position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Safety
- Employee is responsible to fully implement WBC Ministries Safety policies and procedures and to provide a safe working environment for any staff or volunteer under their direction.
Grounds Care
This position oversees and supports the general grounds-keeping priorities of BDC as directed by the Facilities and Grounds Director. Tasks and duties will include:
- Responsible for maintaining healthy lawns including proper and consistent mowing height, fertilization, re-seeding and weed control.
- Maintain landscaped areas including regular weeding and pruning in flower beds, transplanting flowers and shrubs and proper irrigation.
- Assist with the construction and development of new landscape areas.
- Keep the main camp cleaned from branches and foreign debris and lead efforts for winterizing in the off season.
- Develop and oversee the irrigation schedule for camp yards and flower beds.
- Keep gravel roads smooth, properly draining and cleaned off.
- Keep paved roads, parking lots and sidewalks blown off and debris free.
- Keep grounds-keeping equipment such as mowers, weed-eaters and other tools in proper working condition.
- Other duties as assigned.
Facilities And Maintenance
This position carries out the general maintenance priorities of BDC as directed by the Facilities and Grounds Director. Tasks and duties will include:
- Assist in areas of new construction and building remodels.
- Perform basic carpentry work.
- Make repairs to basic electrical systems.
- Diagnose and repair plumbing systems.
- Perform regular vehicle maintenance on camp vehicles including oil changes and tune-ups.
- Safe operation of heavy equipment such as tractors, backhoes and snowplows.
- Assist with the management of camp utilities.
- Responding to guest needs.
- Other duties as assigned.
General Duties
- Seek knowledge and adherence to best practices in safety.
- Supervise and train volunteers to safely complete projects as assigned.
- Perform and supervise projects as assigned.
- Maintain clean and orderly working environment.
- Provide feedback to Supervisor on condition of grounds and camp facilities.
- Communicate equipment, repair, supply and labor needs to Supervisor.
- Attend all staff meetings.
- Participate in a rotation of weekend duty assignments.
- Other duties as assigned.
Cross-Training
Employee will be available to be cross-trained into other areas of the ministry as needs arise.

Classification
This is a year round position and may be full-time or part-time depending on the needs of the Camp.

Education And/Or Experience
Associate's degree or two years of related grounds-keeping and/or maintenance experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
