Job Description:

The Early Childhood Support Specialist holds a key role in the treatment of children, ages 0-5 years old. The Early Childhood Support Specialist is a hands-on position, serving as an advocate and collaborator to ensure the developmental, academic, and social/emotional needs of very young children are addressed. This individual supports their patients in accessing the resources or tools needed to reach specified goals relating to behavior modification, parent education, and/or resource acquisition. The Early Childhood Specialist understands the value and challenges in navigating the systems of care available to our community, specifically as it relates to Birth To Five supportive services.  This individual may work closely with the Department of Child Safety and will include the completion of a protracted assessment to inform goals and treatment planning for the child and caregivers involved.  Very young children involved in behavioral health services are considered a high risk category and qualify for high needs case management under Mercy Care standards. The Early Childhood Specialist will complete clinical assessments and gather information about social/emotional needs, trauma history and other concerns.   The Early Childhood Support Specialist will receive specific training as it pertains to the birth to five demographic, including the utilization of developmental screeners, parent-child observational assessments, and evidence-based intervention models to ensure that the services provided are best practice for the patient. Services may be provided in office, in the home, in the school or in the community, as well as virtually. The Birth to Five Care Coordinator may have up to 45 active patients on their caseloads.

Salary: $43,680/annual

Job Qualifications:

  • Behavioral Health Technician II (BHT II)

o   18 Years of age or older; and

o   Bachelor’s or master’s degree in behavioral health (B.H.) related field; or

o   Clinical Intern in bachelor’s or master’s degree behavioral health program in good standing; or

o   Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a non-BH related field AND 1 year of BH work experience; or

o   Associate degree AND 2 years of BH work experience; or

o   High School diploma and 4 years of experience in a BH setting (1 year must be direct patient contact). If the applicant has less than four years and/or at least one year of direct care experience, Director approval will be required during the hiring and credentialing process.

  • Must have the skills and knowledge necessary to provide the behavioral health services that the agency is authorized to provide and to meet the unique needs of consumer populations served by the agency, including children and meet requirements Behavioral Health Technician II (BHTII).
  • Must be credentialed BHTII upon hire.
  • Must be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge and understanding of human behavior and counseling theories. 
  • Must have exceptional skills in communication (written and verbal) and able to execute conflict resolution. 
  • Ability to develop routine reports and correspondence.
  • Strong verbal, written, and communications skills
  • Knowledge of Windows environment and/or Electronic Health Records Systems.
  • Ability to provide culturally sensitive services
  • Must have or able to obtain valid Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Must possess reliable transportation, valid driver's license, and proof of auto insurance.
  • Must maintain current BLS certification
  • TB Screening Record and PPD/QuantiFERON/Chest x-ray as applicable upon hire
