We're building tomorrow’s bank today, which means we need creative and diverse engineers to help us redefine what customers expect from a bank. Envisioning new technologies that are still waiting to be invented and reimagining products that support our customers and help build Australia’s future economy.
Our engineering teams are the brains behind Australia’s number one banking app, Netbank, Cardless Cash, CommSec Pocket and Spend Tracker. We go beyond a passion for web and mobile development, creating reliable APIs at a unique scale in Australia. And you could be a part of that journey.
See yourself in our team
The Mass Affluent Wealth Crew is a cross-functional team within CBA’s Wealth & Private domain, dedicated to delivering Australia’s leading digital wealth proposition for mass affluent customers. Our purpose is to empower customers to manage, grow and protect their wealth with confidence, combining innovative technology, deep customer insight and seamless digital experiences. Our unique Customer Value Proposition positions CBA as the only bank offering an integrated Self-Managed Super Fund (SMSF) solution that brings investing and administration together within the CommBank app.
We plan to deliver AI-powered experiences, automated administration, portfolio tracking and benchmarking, exclusive pricing and access to partner discounts, all designed to simplify wealth management and help customers achieve their financial goals. By leveraging our diverse team, modern engineering practices and a relentless focus on customer outcomes, we’re redefining what’s possible in banking and investing for Australia’s mass affluent segment.
We’re interested in hearing from people who can
- Play a key leadership role within the Crew, supporting the Crew Tech Lead and gaining exposure to strategic decision-making and opportunities to lead cross-crew technology initiatives
- Build, lead and inspire a high-performing, diverse team of engineers with a strong product mindset and full-cycle engineering capabilities
- Champion coaching, career development and a growth mindset, and are motivated by helping others grow and succeed
- Role model a culture of empowerment, inclusion, transparency and constructive challenge
- Drive innovation and experimentation through product engineering leveraging the latest AI powered engineering tooling
- Drive technology strategy, contribute to the Crew’s vision and help prioritise the technology roadmap
- Collaborate with senior management and stakeholders to remove blockers and deliver outcomes that matter
- Exercise sound judgement with a bias to action, empowered from day one to make decisions, lead your team autonomously and move work forward
- Demonstrate deep personal curiosity and a commitment to lifelong learning and adaptation —constantly seeking new knowledge, embracing change and inspiring others to do the same.
Technical Skills
We’re looking for a leader with strong Full-Stack foundations and a passion for modern engineering. You might not tick every box, every time, but you bring depth in several of these areas and a willingness to learn the rest:
- Front-end expertise: Demonstrated, hands-on experience building and maintaining modern web applications using React and/or Angular. Deep understanding of JavaScript/TypeScript, component-based architecture, state management (e.g. Redux, Context API), responsive and accessible design, and automated testing frameworks. Experience with design systems and delivering high-quality, customer-centric user experiences at scale
- Back-end development: Proven ability to design, build and optimise scalable, secure services and APIs using .NET (C#/.NET Core), including robust database design (SQL/NoSQL), integration patterns, performance tuning and implementation of secure, well-structured RESTful and/or GraphQL endpoints. Experience with cloud-native patterns (preferably AWS), microservices and event-driven architectures is highly valued
- Full-Stack delivery: Demonstrated capability to deliver end-to-end solutions by integrating frontend and backend layers, managing CI/CD pipelines (e.g. GitHub Actions), applying best-practice automated testing (unit, integration, E2E) and collaborating across disciplines (product, design, quality engineering, SRE) to ship robust, customer-facing features from concept to production. Familiarity with DevSecOps, infrastructure-as-code, and foundational SRE practices is highly regarded.
