Job Description

ASU SPG2 role

Qantas Freight is Australia’s largest independent air freight services business, carrying over 4000 air freight shipments per day across more than 500 destinations globally.

As the Operations Manager, you will be responsible for day-to-day operational management of service level agreements and leadership of team members within the freight terminal. Reporting to the Terminal Manager, you will be a key influencer and driver in evolving a workplace culture to drive consistency and accountability through the optimisation of resources, safety, customer service, on time performance and financial controls. This role will work closely with stakeholders across the Qantas Group, as well as externally with key account customers, union and regulatory bodies.

The role will collaborate effectively with the broader terminal leadership team and operational supervisors to collectively deliver high levels of service for the business. This role will drive a positive employee performance culture by developing a high performing team and an engaged workforce. Leading, encouraging and facilitating open communication with employees on all relevant matters.

In addition, you will manage individual and team performance against relevant performance criteria and supporting individual capability development.

You’Ll Have –

  • Previous experience leading, coaching and mentoring a team of direct reports
  • Detailed understanding of the airline industry, experienced with all aspects of operational, safety, security and emergency standard operating procedures
  • Proven experience in driving continuous improvement and successfully managing change 
  • Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with an ability to drive solutions in ambiguous situations
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results within complex business & operational environments with varying stakeholder needs and expectations
  • Deep commitment to customer service excellence and advocacy
  • Ability to work a rotating 24/7 roster with the possibility of extended night shift rosters/permanent night shift
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to show initiative and flexibility
