About Story and PIP Labs
Story is building the IP layer of the internet. We are creating a programmable framework that allows creators, developers, and companies to register, license, and remix intellectual property onchain. Backed by a16z, Story enables a new generation of creative and technical builders to collaborate, share, and build on each other’s work while preserving provenance and value.
PIP Labs is the core development studio behind Story. Our team is a mix of engineers, designers, and operators focused on building world-class products and growing the Story ecosystem. Together, we are shaping the future of ownership, creativity, and collaboration in a networked world.
Role Summary
We are looking for a seasoned communications leader to drive the Story Protocol narrative in Korea. As one of our most culturally influential markets, Korea plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of intellectual property, gaming, and entertainment in Web3. This role is both strategic and executional: you’ll work closely with our global team to tailor campaigns for Korea, activate key moments, manage our local PR agency, and build strong media and ecosystem relationships.

Core Responsibilities

  • Localize Global Communications Strategy: Translate global announcements into culturally relevant Korean campaigns, narratives, and press releases.
  • Media Relations & Coverage: Cultivate and leverage existing relationships with top-tier Korean tech, business, and entertainment media. Secure interviews, op-eds, and consistent Story coverage.
  • Narrative Development for Korean Market: Tailor the global Story Protocol narrative to reflect Korea's cultural and technological landscape, especially across gaming, IP, AI, and entertainment.
  • Lead PR Agency Execution: Manage our local PR agency and ensure high-impact execution on strategy, KPIs, and storytelling.
  • Executive Positioning & Thought Leadership: Support the strategic positioning of Story’s C-suite and leadership team in Korea, including media visibility, speaker profiles, and byline opportunities.
  • Ecosystem Communications: Partner with Korean builders, creators, and ecosystem partners to surface local stories and campaigns.
  • Proactive Comms Strategy: Go beyond execution. Proactively identify opportunities to elevate Story’s brand, ecosystem, and leadership via earned media, thought leadership, cultural trends, or market moments. We’re looking for a self-starter who brings comms ideas to the table.
  • Support Regulatory & Government Positioning: Contribute to Story’s positioning in Korea’s innovation policy and public discourse, in coordination with government affairs consultants if needed.
  • Event Support: Help with communications and media strategy for major events (e.g. Korea Blockchain Week), Story-hosted events, or community activations. Identify and secure relevant local events and speaking opportunities for Story and its leadership.
  • Crisis Comms & Reputation Management: Monitor local sentiment, flag issues early, and support real-time response efforts in the event of market or media escalations.
  • Internal Coordination: Act as the local “hub” for communications collaborating closely with global Marketing, Ecosystem, and Business Development teams.
  • Measurement & Reporting: Track local media KPIs, sentiment shifts, and ecosystem visibility; report insights back to the global team.

Desired Skills And Experience

  • 10+ years in communications, PR, media relations, or public affairs (combination of agency and in-house preferred).
  • Proven track record of earned media wins in Korea, especially with top-tier outlets (e.g., Chosun Biz, Hankyung, The Bell, Maeil Kyungjae, TechM).
  • Comes with strong existing relationships across Korea’s tech, business, and culture media landscape
  • Deep understanding of Korea’s cultural and tech landscape, especially crypto, AI, gaming, entertainment, creator economy, and K-content IP.
  • Experience in Web3, crypto, blockchain, or emerging tech strongly preferred.
  • Strong writing skills in Korean (press releases, bylines, narratives, media Q&As).
  • Excellent English skills: comfortable navigating a global team and reviewing/editing English drafts.
  • Strategic thinker and self-starter: able to independently spot opportunities and act on them.
  • Familiarity with Korea’s regulatory and policy dynamics around crypto, AI, IP, or internet platforms is a major plus.
  • Familiarity with community-driven storytelling or influencer comms in Korea (e.g. DeSpread)

Bonus Backgrounds (Nice To Have)

  • Prior role at a global PR agency, as a journalist or government-affiliated innovation body.
  • Communications support for K-pop/entertainment IP, eSports, or gaming platforms.
  • Involvement in Korean startup, VC, or blockchain communities.
