Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is looking to hire a Site Assistant Superintendent 1 at Coffeen Lake State Fish and Wildlife Area. This position will perform carpentry and groundskeeping duties and maintain site equipment and structures for hunting and fishing activities at Coffeen Lake and Ramsey Lake as assigned. This person will inspect vehicles and other site equipment and schedule needed maintenance and repairs, conduct inventory and participate in preparing the annual operating budget and annual Plan of Work. This person will serve as a working supervisor providing guidance and training to staff. Coffeen Lake provides anglers, hunters and the public recreational activities, such as fishing, boating, picnicking and hunting.​​​​​​ We welcome interested applicants who would like to be part of this team to apply today.

Essential Functions

  • Under general supervision of the Site Superintendent, supervises and participates in the maintenance of site equipment and structures for hunting and fishing activities at the Coffeen Lake State Fish and Wildlife Area and Ramsey Lake as assigned.
  • Performs public relations duties.
  • Directs and participates in groundskeeping duties.
  • Serves as working supervisor.
  • Participates in site financial planning and tracking and provides input on budgetary recommendations.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree with courses in parks and recreation, natural resource administration or public administration and one year's related functional supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefers working knowledge of the principles and practices of site administration, including site interpretation, natural and/or cultural resource conservation, structural and grounds maintenance, public relations, personnel administration, and fiscal management.
  • Prefers two (2) years of experience in problem solving situations encountered in the performance of the duties and responsibilities.
  • Prefers one (1) year of experience assigning, supervising, and evaluating the work of subordinate employees.
