About Us

Climate X is a purpose-driven technology company, backed by GV (Google Ventures), Western Technologies (early investors in Meta, Google, Palantir), Commerz Ventures, Pale Blue Dot, Deloitte, and other world-class investors. We’re a wonderfully diverse, growing team with physical offices in London and New York City.

Demand for Climate X is growing fast, and we need to build our team! You’ll be at the front of a nascent industry, working as part of a fantastic and diverse team, doing things that you can be proud of. We’re excited to have the opportunity to speak with you during this process.

Our Mission

To deepen the understanding of our changing planet and inspire meaningful action.

What We Do

  • We’re helping the world become more resilient to the impacts of physical climate risks (including floods, fires, storms and more). In doing so, we help drive positive global impact aligned to many of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s).
  • Our team builds cutting-edge, peer-reviewed science (incorporating climate projections, remote sensing data) and translates that into financial impacts (to the value of assets or business disruption linked to failure of critical infrastructure) that our customers in the financial services industry use to identify, manage and mitigate those risks.
  • Climate X’s customers include the world’s largest banks, asset managers and insurance companies including CBRE, Standard Chartered, Virgin Money and Federated Hermes, as well as a partnership ecosystem that includes Deloitte, Capgemini and AWS. Combined, they manage over $6.5 trillion of assets.
  • Customers choose us thanks to our ecosystem of products that help solve real human problems and drive tangible business benefits. They love our customer-centric mindset, as well as our pace of innovation in the market.

The Impact You’Ll Own

As a Senior DevOps Engineer, you will work on systems that integrate with external customers and other internal systems to orchestrate the discovery and risk analysis of company asset datasets. You will design and evolve the infrastructure that powers our climate risk products — ensuring robust, scalable, and secure operations across our asset modelling and risk analysis platforms.

Working alongside another Senior DevOps Engineer, you will:

  • Enhance and evolve our AWS platform: Evolve our AWS infrastructure and delivery pipelines to support faster, more reliable deployments and developer workflows.
  • Shape the architectural blueprint for scaling: Design scalable, secure CI/CD processes and infrastructure to accelerate software delivery.
  • Drive best practices in observability and monitoring: building robust logging, metrics, and alerting to ensure systems are transparent and issues are caught early.
  • Act as DevOps leadership: Provide DevOps leadership in modern deployment strategies (Kubernetes, GitOps, CI/CD), fostering knowledge sharing across the engineering org.

This role is a chance to make a big impact by shaping the foundations of our cloud platform and enabling the company to scale with confidence.

Technical Implementation:

  • Design, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, ArgoCD) to support secure, fast, and automated software delivery.
  • Manage containerized and serverless workloads across AWS, including Kubernetes (EKS), ECS/Fargate, and Lambda, ensuring reliability, scalability, and cost-efficiency.
  • Enhance and evolve our AWS platform: improve performance across Kubernetes workloads, serverless systems, and data-driven services.
  • Lead migration initiatives from ECS to EKS, enabling more standardized and reliable deployments across environments.
  • Implement infrastructure as code (IaC) using Terraform to provision and manage cloud infrastructure consistently.
  • Champion GitOps workflows to drive auditable, automated, and version-controlled deployments.
  • Design secure, scalable cross-account networking with VPC peering, Transit Gateway, and PrivateLink to ensure robust connectivity between environments.
  • Build and operate observability tooling (monitoring, logging, tracing, alerting) to ensure transparency, proactive alerting, and fast root-cause resolution.
  • Collaborate with engineers to optimize deployments, improve developer experience, and continuously evolve platform reliability and security.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure and application-level issues across environments, ensuring high availability and performance.

Essential Skills

  • Strong experience designing and managing AWS infrastructure, including EKS, ECS/Fargate, Lambda, RDS, CloudFront, and VPC.
  • Solid expertise with Kubernetes (EKS preferred) - including scaling, monitoring, and migrating workloads.
  • Proven experience with CI/CD tooling and DevOps automation (e.g., GitHub Actions, ArgoCD).
  • Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.
  • Deep understanding of cloud security best practices, IAM policies, and secrets management.
  • Proven expertise in cross-account AWS networking (Transit Gateway, PrivateLink, VPC Peering, Route 53).
  • Experience implementing observability frameworks, including monitoring, logging, tracing, and alerting solutions.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with distributed systems and microservices architectures.
  • Familiarity with event-driven and messaging systems (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS).
  • Exposure to workflow orchestration frameworks (Temporal, Airflow, etc.).
  • Knowledge of service mesh technologies (e.g., Istio, Linkerd) or advanced Kubernetes patterns (operators, CRDs).
  • Experience with FinOps / cloud cost optimisation practices.
  • Familiarity with compliance and security standards relevant to finance (ISO 27001, SOC2, GDPR).
