The Role

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated physician to provide academic leadership in Medicine across the four years of the Doctor of Medicine (MD) program.

The Macquarie Medical School within the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences (FMHHS) is seeking ONE part-time (0.7 FTE) medical academic (Teaching & Leadership Job Family) to provide academic leadership in Medicine across the four years of the Doctor of Medicine (MD) program.

This is a significant leadership role that will shape the integration, delivery, and assessment of Medicine in our curriculum. The successful applicant will be appointed at the level of Associate Professor and will join a dynamic academic team committed to excellence in medical education.

Some of your key responsibilities will be:

  • Lead the design, delivery, and evaluation of the Medicine curriculum across Years 1–4 of the MD program.
  • Ensure vertical and horizontal integration of Medicine with other disciplines and learning streams.
  • Provide leadership in the design and delivery of assessments in Medicine, including written, clinical, and workplace-based assessments.
  • Supervise and support academic and clinical educators teaching Medicine.
  • Contribute to curriculum review, accreditation, and program governance.
  • Foster scholarly activities in medical education and contribute to the academic profile of the program.

You will be an accomplished clinician with demonstrated expertise in medical education.

The Successful Candidate Will Bring:

Essential Criteria

  • A current medical registration with AHPRA and fellowship of Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP).
  • Significant clinical experience in Medicine, with demonstrated commitment to teaching medical students.
  • A postgraduate qualification in medicine/medical education or academic leadership.
  • Strong record of leadership in medical education, including curriculum development and assessment.
  • Experience in supervising and mentoring academic and clinical staff.
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and teamwork skills.
  • Working or willing to work in Macquarie University Health campus as a clinician.

Desirable Criteria

  • Evidence of scholarly activity or research in medical education.
  • Familiarity with AMC accreditation standards and requirements for medical programs.
  • Experience in higher education academic governance and leadership.

  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with an ability to relate to staff and students from all backgrounds and disciplines, and to represent the faculty to external stakeholders and the general public.
  • Experience and/or qualifications in medicine/medical education.
  • Demonstrated evidence of research activity in the field of medicine/medical education, relative to opportunity.
  • Ability to develop and lead scholarly and innovative approaches to teaching and learning.
