Job Description
Job Summary
This role supports HR, Compliance, the Company's Doctor of Optometry Network, and Retail Operations by providing advice and recommendations on complex issues that have or may have a significant impact on the Company, ensuring company-wide compliance with employment laws and regulations, and managing litigation.
What Would You Do? The Specifics.
- Develops and leads legal and compliance projects and audits related to policy and regulatory compliance.
- Represents the legal interests of the Company and its affiliated entities in litigation, including working with other members of the legal team and outside counsel to develop case strategy, manage costs, and negotiate appropriate resolution when needed.
- Investigates and responds to administrative complaints, including complaints filed with EEOC, DOL, OSHA, and equivalent state agencies.
- Negotiates and prepares employment contracts and other legal documents.
- Conducts and otherwise supports workplace investigations.
- Provides legal guidance on employment actions to mitigate legal risk.
- Tracks key metrics and provides data reporting to assist with risk analysis as requested.
- Reviews and analyzes changes in laws or regulations that impact operations at the federal, state, and local levels and implements any needed changes in policy and procedures.
- Creates and maintains job aids and other tools to support compliance with employment-related laws and regulations.
- Partners with Training and Development to develop and implement programs and training plans that meet legal requirements and support a compliant workplace.
- Analyzes data, conducts research, and reviews policies, procedures, and processes to assess risk, monitor adherence to policies and procedures, and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Collaborates across teams to identify risks and to create and implement appropriate response plans.
- Leads, directs, manages, and evaluates direct reports.
Qualifications
Work Experience
- 4-6 years legal experience within a law firm or a combination of law firm/in-house (Required)
Education
- JD from an accredited Law School (Required)
- Licensed attorney of law in at least one state (Required)
Additional Skills
- Expert knowledge of employment and labor laws is required.
- Experience with litigation and counseling.
- Strong verbal/written communication abilities, effective interpersonal skills, and strong attention to detail.
- Understanding of the complexity of business needs and decision drivers within an organization. Must be able to consider available facts, constraints, competitive circumstances, and probable consequences.
- Excellent organization, planning, judgment, and time management skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive information with tact and discretion.
Travel Requirements
- 10% Travel required. Hybrid positions require on-site participation in specific events, meetings, and legal proceedings, as well as regular in-office attendance for management, training, and collaboration.
