Job Description:
About The Role
Dow Jones is seeking a hard-driving and strategic Vice President of DevOps to lead our global infrastructure, reliability, platform engineering, and cloud operations functions. This executive will be accountable for ensuring our B2B and B2C financial news and data products are highly available, secure, performant, and cost-optimized, supporting real-time financial data and global news delivery consumed by millions of professionals worldwide.
Reporting to the SVP, Head of Technology Operations, this leader will define and execute the enterprise DevOps strategy, manage a global team across onshore and offshore locations, and work cross-functionally to deliver world-class reliability, observability, and operational excellence. This is a hybrid role based in our NYC office.
You Will:
- Strategy & Leadership
- Define and drive the overall DevOps vision, roadmap, and operating model, aligned to business and product priorities.
- Lead and scale high-performing global teams spanning Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), Platform Engineering, Infrastructure, and Release Management.
- Foster a culture of automation, measurement, and continuous improvement, with clear accountability for performance, availability, and delivery speed.
- Partner with Security and IT leadership (parent company) to ensure alignment on compliance (SOC2, ISO 27001, PCI, etc), risk posture, and enterprise resilience.
- Infrastructure, Reliability, & Cloud Operations
- Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of highly available, low-latency systems supporting financial data pipelines and news delivery (experience with AWS and GCP preferred).
- Normalize and standardize tools, reducing fragmentation and improving consistency across environments.
- Ensure robust disaster recovery, business continuity, and incident response practices for both B2B and B2C platforms.
- Embed reliability metrics into engineering processes, driving maturity with DORA metrics, SLAs, SLOs, and error budgets.
- Deployment, Automation, & FinOps
- Lead the transformation to modern CI/CD pipelines, enabling frequent, reliable, and automated releases across multiple products.
- Drive adoption of AI-driven operations (AIOps) and intelligent automation for monitoring, anomaly detection, and root cause analysis.
- Own cloud budget oversight and deliver measurable cost optimization through FinOps practices, balancing performance, scalability, and financial discipline.
- Deliver transparent reporting on operational KPIs, including uptime, latency, deployment frequency, and mean time to recovery (MTTR).
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Product, Engineering, and Data leadership to ensure new features launch reliably and with minimal downtime.
- Serve as the executive voice for DevOps, translating technical risk, performance, and trade-offs into business terms for the C-suite, board committees, and external stakeholders.
- Align operational practices with the unique demands of real-time financial markets, where accuracy, resilience, and global availability are non-negotiable.
