What Is The Opportunity?

Join the RBC foreign exchange (FX) electronic trading technology team during an exciting time of growth as we evolve our in-house software to enhance our sales and trading capabilities. We are doing an entire overhaul of our sales and trading tools, digitize the entire workflow and building robust new products that will allow our customers more frictionless access to this market.

We’re looking for an experienced hands-on development manager leading a team of talented engineers to deliver high quality trading solutions. As a full-stack dev lead with HTML5, ReactJS, and Java experience, you will be building scalable software in a micro service architecture as well as rich front end trading applications.  You will be working in an Agile team to deliver business value incrementally and take accountability for the delivery of the local development team.

What Will You Do?

  • Contribute to an exceptional employee experience through strong people leadership practices that amplify our Collective Ambition and exemplify the Leadership Model to inspire, support and empower employees to achieve their potential.
  • Accept and successfully execute change while supporting employees through the process and keeping them focused on business priorities.
  • Take ownership of delivery of the local development team, meeting the collective team’s goals; be able to swarm on stories so that work-in-progress is kept to a minimum.
  • Be part of an agile team that delivers an in-house HTML5 application for internal users to trade and manage client trades on a slick HTML5 GUI.
  • Work within a product team and the wider development team in other regions to implement changes quickly and help deliver intuitive solutions which optimizes our technology offering.
  • Work closely with an end-to-end product team to ensure the team delivers on the acceptance criteria.
  • Work within a team culture that is driven by quality (user reviews with sales, external clients, and ability to take feedback into improvements for upcoming sprints)
  • Assist the team in meeting their requirements to deliver working software at the end of every 2-week sprint.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED?

Must Have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, with proven experience leading a development team delivering frequent releases.
  • Strong experience in developing high-performance full-stack applications serving a large user base, utilizing technologies such as ReactJS, ES6, HTML5, CSS, Typescript/JavaScript, and backend services built with Java 17, Spring Boot, and middleware messaging platforms like Solace, Kafka, or similar.
  • Proficient understanding of design patterns, data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented programming concepts.
  • Proactive Mindset, Self-motivated individual with a proactive "can-do" attitude, capable of working independently from a defined backlog without requiring constant direction.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders.

Nice-To-Have:

  • UX Experience: Familiarity with UX design principles and participation in UX design processes.
  • DevOps Knowledge: Experience with tools and technologies such as Jenkins, Nexus, GitHub, deployment tooling (e.g., Maven/Gradle), and scripting.
  • Agile Methodologies: Prior experience working within an Agile team environment.

What’s in it for you?

We thrive on the challenge to be our best, progressive thinking to keep growing, and working together to deliver trusted advice to help our clients thrive and communities prosper. We care about each other, reaching our potential, making a difference to our communities, and achieving success that is mutual.

  • A comprehensive Total Rewards Program including bonuses and flexible benefits, competitive compensation, commissions, and stock where applicable
  • Leaders who support your development through coaching and managing opportunities
  • Ability to make a difference and lasting impact in technology transformation
  • Work in a dynamic, collaborative, progressive, and high-performing team
  • A world-class training program in financial services and technology
  • Flexible work/life balance options
