  • CBC News Network is seeking three (3) Editorial Assistants to support newsgathering and production in one-year full-time contracts designed to fast-track development.
  • These in-office positions are based in Toronto.
  • The core responsibilities include assisting with scripts and operations in the control room and newsroom. However, the long-term goal of these development roles is to
  • provide as much exposure to other higher-level editorial roles as possible. Successful candidates will gain skills and likely backfill in a variety of Associate Producer, Senior
  • Writer, and Producer roles with News Network. Backfilling similar roles throughout the broader CBC News is also possible.
  • We’re looking for motivated journalists who can demonstrate potential to grow, have strong communications skills and an open mindset. We are also looking for people who
  • have a deep appreciation for different perspectives, opinions, and experiences. All work while on these contracts is governed by and adheres to CBC journalistic and
  • programming policies, standards and practices. Career advice and guidance are available, but day to day editorial initiative and independent judgment are expected.

Relevant Skills And Experience:

  • Previous journalistic, editorial or on-the-job experience gained outside of an educational institution.
  • University level degree in journalism, or a related field.
  • Able to use video and sound in a creative and inventive manner to enhance our basic journalistic product.
  • Knowledge and understanding of CBC News on all platforms and CBC journalistic policies and standards is an asset.
  • Knowledge of CBC programming is essential.
  • Solid journalistic judgment and critical thinking.
  • Independent, self-motivated and highly organized.
  • Ability to work effectively in a high-pressure team environment with a proven ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Knowledge of iNews, MediaCentral, Vizrt and Dalet Plus is an asset.
  • Ability to work a range of shifts including early mornings, evenings, overnight and weekends.
  • Multi-language skills are an asset.
  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity.
  • Open Mindset.
