The Fiscal and Business Analyst plays an integral role in supporting the Department of Molecular Pharmacology & Physiology through financial reporting, forecasting, and budget management. This position is responsible for analyzing financial and accounting data to keep the department leadership and faculty investigators informed of their budgetary standing. The analyst ensures compliance with relevant statues, regulations, and accounting principles while preparing projection reports for grants, foundation support, state funds, and other sources. Reporting directly to the department’s Fiscal & Business Manager, the role helps guide financial planning by interpreting data trends and assessing spending patterns. This position also supports day-to-day operations, assisting with purchasing, invoicing, and travel related transactions within the department, and contributes to the overall fiscal health and strategic direction of the unit through sound judgment and analytical insight.
Responsibilities:
- Reconciles P-card statements for department cardholders and researches any inconsistent issues.
- Initiates requisition for purchases, initiates purchase orders (PO’s) for approval, and verifies invoices received, and reconciles these expenditures. Ensures that all invoices are paid in a timely manner and responds to inquiries regarding the statues of requisitions, PO’s or goods/services received.
- Runs routine business reports from FAST.
- Prepares travel reimbursement forms and travel expense reports for department employees.
- Sets up and maintains all fiscal records and documentation for the PIs and department accounts assigned to them.
- Sets up Auxiliary invoices for billing to customers.
- Prepares and develops financial projections/forecasts, “what if” scenarios, budget control systems, and manages financial reporting/ planning at monthly intervals.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration or other field directly related to the position's specific responsibilities and 0-2 years of fiscal related work experience; or a Bachelor's degree in no specific required field and 2 years of fiscal related work experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business administration or other field directly related to the position’s specific responsibilities and 2-4 years of fiscal related work experience.
Degree Equivalency Clause: Four years of direct experience for a bachelor’s degree.

• SB 1310: Substitution of Work Experience for Postsecondary Education Requirements
• A public employer may include a postsecondary degree as a baseline requirement only as an alternative to the number of years of direct experience required, not to exceed:
• (a) Two years of direct experience for an associate degree;
• (b) Four years of direct experience for a bachelor’s degree;
• (c) Six years of direct experience for a master’s degree;
• (d) Seven years of direct experience for a professional degree; or
• (e) Nine years of direct experience for a doctoral degree
• Related work experience may not substitute for any required licensure, certification, or registration required for the position of employment as established by the public employer and indicated in the advertised description of the position of employment.
• Minimum Qualifications that require a high school diploma are exempt from SB 1310.
