About The Division:

The Criminal Investigation Division (CID) enforces criminal provisions of the state's tax laws administered by the Comptroller's Office. CID also enforces the Penal, Transportation and Health and Safety codes, among others. Its officers make arrests and conduct long-term, complex criminal investigations that are referred to state and federal prosecutors.

Monday through Friday, 40 hours a week with occasional evening, weekend hours and holidays. Hours may change based on business need.

 

Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree.

Preferred Education:

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Accounting or Business. 

Experience::

  • Two years of full-time work experience in a law enforcement agency performing criminal investigations, intelligence gathering, police communications-telecommunications network operations or working in an agency performing tasks that require a high level of confidentiality.

Preferred Experience::

  • Experience using LEXIS/NEXIS, TXDPS-CJIS and TLETS 
  • Experience using all or any of the following databases to perform research: NCIC/TCIC, N-DEX, AWM, TRP, TWC, SOS, GOOGLE EARTH, TAX APPRAISAL WEB SITES 

Substitution:

  • One additional year of experience performing criminal investigations, financial audits or tax enforcement work may substitute for thirty semester hours of the required education with a maximum substitution of 120 semester hours (four years).

Licenses And Certifications:

  • Valid Texas driver’s license with a good driving record and proof of insurance.
  • Qualified to obtain a TLETS Certification and Lexis-Law Enforcement Solutions License within 12 months of employment is required.

Summary Of Physical Requirements

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • This position requires the incumbent to primarily perform sedentary office work; however, mobility (standing and walking) is routinely required to carry out some duties. It requires extensive computer, telephone and client/customer contact. This position requires the ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and reach as needed for filing and similar routine office duties. 
  • The job also requires normal cognitive abilities requiring the ability to learn, recall, and apply certain practices and policies. It requires the stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions. Marginal or corrected visual and auditory requirements are required for reading printed materials and computer screens and communicating with internal and external customers. May involve moving and transferring up to 25lbs of office equipment/material on a limited basis. 

Employees are required to use their personal mobile phones as a part of 2 factor/multi factor authentication for accessing CPA systems securely. You will also receive critical/emergency calls/texts on your cell phone to ensure immediate communication.

In This Role:

You will be performing law enforcement investigative work. Work involves conducting criminal investigations. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Duties Include:

  • Studying and analyzing operations and problems, preparing and providing reports of findings and recommendations to field investigators and other CID personnel.
  • Collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data collected, and disseminating relevant documents to aid investigators in criminal cases.
  • Researching and responding to requests for information within specified time frames.
  • Serving as a liaison by providing consultative services and technical assistance to analysts in other state and federal law enforcement agencies regarding the specific program area of responsibility and participating in compiling data for specific files to be included in the database.
  • Reviewing assignments to prioritize workload in accordance with section policies and procedures.
  • Analyzing and determining resources needed to perform assignments.
  • Demonstrating an understanding of the potential sensitivity of the information being researched and using appropriate discretion when discussing or presenting the topic.
  • Composing and/or completing correspondence and reports summarizing documentation to identify subjects.
  • Analyzing information gathered to identify action to be taken on assignments.
  • Providing guidance to another specialist, when needed.
  • Attending workshops and seminars on intelligence gathering and analyzing techniques.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.
