Position Overview

Amentum Space Exploration Division is seeking a Materials and Processes Engineer to support the Human Lander System (HLS) program, contributing to the development of Moon and Mars landers. This role involves coordinating across commercial and NASA programs while ensuring compliance with NASA regulations and standards. The successful candidate will collaborate with various departments and programs to define materials needs and contribute to mission-critical spacecraft systems.

Key Responsibilities

Program Coordination and Compliance

  • Coordinate between different commercial and NASA programs
  • Ensure compliance with NASA regulations and standards
  • Collaborate with various departments and programs to define materials needs
  • Maintain professional relationships with NASA customers, other NASA support contractors, and HLS commercial partners

Systems Development and Safety

  • Contribute to the development of systems safety and reliability products for the lunar lander
  • Participate in mission planning and ensure the integrity of the human-rated lunar lander spacecraft
  • Work with team members to identify risks, develop risk statements, and formulate responses
  • Review Hazard Analyses and safety documentation

Testing And Analysis

Team Collaboration and Communication

  • Collaborate with a diverse team of engineers, specialists, and designers to enhance the overall project
  • Attend HLS Project meetings and provide meeting summaries to technical leads
  • Work effectively in a team environment
  • Report to the team lead providing status on progress, issues, and requests for support

Additional Duties

  • Perform other duties as required to support program objectives

Required Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in Materials Engineering or equivalent field

  • Experience Requirements (one of the following):
  • Bachelor's degree with at least 25 years of related experience
  • Master's degree with 23+ years of related experience
  • PhD with a minimum of 19 years of related experience
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with NASA programs and regulations
  • Background in aerospace materials and processes
  • Knowledge of human-rated spacecraft systems
  • Experience with structural testing methodologies
  • Familiarity with NASA milestone review processes
  •  Familiarity with task tracking systems such as JIRA and Confluence?

Work Environment

  • This position is located in Huntsville, AL, supporting NASA Marshall Space Flight Center. The role requires regular interaction with NASA personnel, commercial partners, and internal team members in a collaborative, mission-critical environment.

Essential Functions

Work Environment:

General office environment (100%). Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Requires travel in the domestic USA (<5%).

Physical Requirements:

Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (80%).  Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and our facilities (<10%).  

Equipment And Machines:

Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).

Attendance:

Normal workday is from 7:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.

Other Essential Functions:

The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.

Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required.
