Basic Qualifications:• Must be 18 years of age or older • No experience required and on the job training provided • No high school diploma, GED or college degree required
Key Responsibilities
Thoroughly wash and clean the exterior glass of high-rise buildings.
Equipment Operation:
Safely set up, maintain, and operate specialized equipment such as scaffolding, bosun's chairs, rope systems, and water-fed poles.
Safety Procedures:
Strictly follow all safety regulations and procedures, as working at extreme heights is inherently risky.
Equipment Maintenance:
Ensure that all safety and cleaning equipment, including harnesses and ropes, is in good working order.
Inspection and Reporting:
Inspect windows for damage, such as cracks or leaks, and report any findings to building management.
Site Maintenance:
Maintain the cleanliness of work areas and equipment used during cleaning tasks.
Skills And Qualifications
- Working at Heights:
A high comfort level and physical ability to work at extreme heights are essential.
Physical Fitness:
The job requires physical stamina to stand, bend, and lift heavy equipment for extended periods.
Attention to Detail:
Meticulousness is crucial to ensure windows are clean and streak-free.
ProblemSolving:
Ability to address challenges that may arise during cleaning, such as difficult-to-reach areas or stubborn dirt.
Safety Knowledge:
A strong understanding of safety regulations and proper use of safety gear is vital.
Communication Skills:
Clear communication with team members and building managers is important for coordination and safety.
Experience:
provided training, previous experience in window cleaning or a related field is often preferred.
Responsibilities
- Safe access and rigging: Install, inspect, and maintain rope access systems and rigging equipment to safely access high-elevation work areas.
Carry out a variety of tasks at height, which can include:
- Inspecting buildings, bridges, and infrastructure
- Window washing and general exterior cleaning
- Non-destructive testing (NDT) to check for structural flaws
- Building envelope repairs, such as waterproofing and caulking
- Installation, maintenance, and repair of equipment
- Adhere to safety protocols: Strictly follow all safety procedures set by the employer, industry standards (IRATA or SPRAT), and relevant authorities like OSHA.
- Conduct equipment checks: Inspect all ropes, harnesses, and other gear before and after each use to ensure it is in perfect working condition.
- Emergency preparedness: Maintain proficiency in rescue techniques and assist in rescue operations as necessary.
- Communication and reporting: Effectively communicate with the team and supervisors regarding safety and work status. Document activities and report test results or findings.
Requirements
- Certification: Possess and maintain a current rope access certification, most commonly from either the Industrial Rope Access Trade Association (IRATA) or the Society of Professional Rope Access Technicians (SPRAT).
- Physical fitness: Be in excellent physical condition, capable of lifting heavy equipment, and comfortable working at significant heights for extended periods and in various weather conditions.
- Experience and skills: Relevant experience in construction, inspection, or maintenance is beneficial. Additional technical skills like NDT or welding can be highly valued.
- Teamwork and communication: Demonstrate strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Problem-solving: Possess strong problem-solving abilities to safely and efficiently address unexpected challenges on a job site.
