Job Description

Please note: Effective October 1, 2025, the Ohio Department of Mental Health & Addiction Services has transitioned to its new name—the Ohio Department of Behavioral Health. This change reflects our continued commitment to providing comprehensive, person-centered care that addresses the full range of behavioral health needs for Ohioans. All positions and services now fall under the Ohio Department of Behavioral Health as we move forward in serving individuals, families, and communities across the state.

This position involves performing skilled and semi-skilled maintenance, repair, installation, and custodial tasks to ensure the safe and efficient operation of a facility. The role requires knowledge across multiple trades, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and general building maintenance, as well as the ability to assist with office relocations, groundskeeping, and occasional delivery support.

Duties Include:

  • Perform skilled and semi-skilled maintenance and repairs in plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and carpentry systems to maintain building functionality and safety.
  • Install, move, and repair office furniture and equipment, including cubicles, desks, and chairs, especially during staff relocations or office setup changes.
  • Complete custodial and groundskeeping tasks, such as sweeping, mopping, waxing floors, mowing grass, and removing snow and ice from sidewalks and parking areas.
  • Operate tools and equipment to assist with repairs to metal parts, perform basic vehicle maintenance, and support painting and drywall work.
  • Maintain accurate documentation by completing work orders, supply requests, and repair reports, and promptly notifying supervisors of repair needs.

This is an hourly position covered by the OCSEA/AFSCME bargaining unit (union), with a pay range of 5 on the OCSEA Pay Range Schedule. Normal working hours are 8:00am - 5:00pm. This position is located within our Ohio Pharmacy Services at 2150 West Broad St., Columbus, Ohio 43223.

Unless required by any applicable union contract and/or requirements of the Ohio Revised Code, the selected candidate will begin at Step 1 of the pay range schedule listed above, with an opportunity for pay increase after six months of satisfactory performance and then a yearly raise thereafter.

Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & in reading, writing & speaking common English vocabulary; 6 mos. trg. or 6 mos. exp. in maintenance repair work (e.g., basic electricity, plumbing, carpentry, masonry repair & use of associated hand & power tools & equipment)

Director Of Administrative Services has determined this classification to be unskilled labor class & therefore exempt from written examination. Valid commercial driver's license required if motor equipment is of type & size regulated by sections 4506.01 & 4506.12 of Ohio revised code.

  • The equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above may be substituted for the experience required, but not for the mandated licensure.
