Job Overview:
The Process Safety / Enclave Operations Support Engineer is an engineering position for the North Enclave and will lead the enclave in Process Safety stewardship in all aspects such as: change management (MOCs), hazard analysis, abnormal situation management by leading EHS reviews, alert and directive investigation and compliance. This position will lead RCAs, FSSs, QRAs, and assist the facilities in Assessment readiness. This position will be assigned action items generated from all Process Safety activities and will be required to resolve or complete them in a timely manner. This position will also be required to revise and/or create procedures.
Reporting Relationships:
The successful candidate will report to the North Enclave Technical Manager and will be located at the Whiting, Indiana facility. This position will work closely with all facility managers, staff, and will be required to complete action items generated by PHAs, LOPAs, QRAs & FSSs, MOCs, Assessments, etc.
The Process Safety Engineer / Enclave Operations Support Engineer Responsibilities Include:
- Lead Process Hazard Analysis, Assessment Readiness, MOC initiations
- Lead RCAs /RCIs and Incident investigations
- Be able to investigate and address all Operations Alerts and Directives
- Lead cost saving initiatives to accomplish productivity targets
- Provide technical support to plant operations and maintenance, and turnaround organization in the optimization of plant operations
- Active support and participation in Plant Engineering activities and small project execution.
- Fully understand ISA/IEC 61511 and Critical Safety Systems (CSSs) to provide support to operating facilities.
Other Requirements Include:
- Flexibility in work schedule to support operations during startup, shutdown, or unplanned events.
- Able to work in confined spaces and at elevated levels.
- Able to travel in the North Enclave up to 40% of the time.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or chemical engineering
- BS + 2 years’ experience in an engineering or process safety role, preferably in a plant operating environment.
- Must have strong technical skills including knowledge of practical application of Plant Processes and all Process Safety procedures such as PHA, MOC, FSS, and RCA.
- Must have a positive attitude, be willing to quickly adapt to changing situations, have strong communications skills, and a strong will to build and maintain productive relationships across departmental lines.
- Must be able and willing to adapt to a work schedule that coincides with plant operational needs and provide reasonable support during off hours.
- Must also be able and willing to work inside of confined spaces.
- Must be a self-starter and have the ability to work independently as well as to lead and participate on cross-functional teams.
- Must be willing to carry a laptop computer and cell phone for occasional use during off hours.
- Must be able to manage multiple priorities, drive issues to completion, and obtain results.
- Must be detail-oriented with an ability and desire to persevere.
- Must be proficient in the use of PHA Works, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
