Description

 

Basic Function

The Cho Lab in the Division of Hematology, Oncology, and Blood & Marrow Transplantation is seeking a highly motivated and experienced research professional to support and advance research programs in cancer immunobiology and inflammatory diseases. Key responsibilities include conducting basic and translational research using cell culture systems, animal models, and in vitro tissue scaffold technologies (bioengineering). Research duties involve performing experiments, collecting and analyzing data, preparing reports, and contributing to manuscripts and publications. In addition, the role includes organizational responsibilities such as facilities and equipment management, as well as the supervision and training of laboratory staff in collaboration with the Principal Investigator (PI).

Key Areas Of Responsibility

Research:

  • Conduct research activities in cancer biology, immunology, and bioengineering. This includes, but is not limited to: cell and tissue culture, molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, animal modeling, protein and antibody engineering, and bioinformatic analysis.
  • Prepare data, figures, and written reports for manuscripts, presentations, and grant applications in collaboration with the Principal Investigator (PI).
  • Present research findings at lab meetings, departmental seminars, and local or national conferences.
  • Adapt and implement experimental protocols from current scientific literature.
  • Critically review relevant literature to support research objectives and contribute to the development of new hypotheses in collaboration with the PI.

Experiments, Investigations, Evaluations:

  • Perform basic and complex procedures and techniques as outlined in research protocols to contribute to the lab’s ongoing research projects.
  • Develop hypotheses and implement research plans in collaboration with PI.
  • Develop, troubleshoot and formulate protocols and methodology.

Collect, Analyze and Summarize Data; Prepare Reports; Contribute to Manuscripts, Publications:

  • May perform statistical analysis of data and qualitative analysis.
  • Assist in preparing protocols
  • Assist in preparing publications and presentations.
  • May contribute to the technical writing of papers, manuscripts, and published materials as evidenced by documented recognition.
  • Present results/finds at team and departmental meetings; may present at local and national meetings.

Administrative And Project Management:

  • Order and maintain inventory of reagents and supplies.
  • Submit routine IRB, ACURF or similar protocol submissions, if applicable.
  • Responsible for safety programs by following guidelines and maintaining required documentation in support of safety programs.
  • Maintain laboratory mouse colonies as applicable.

Facilities And Equipment Management:

  • Coordinate and manage equipment and facilities.
  • Coordinate software licenses as necessary to complete projects.

Supervision/Staffing:

  • Provide ongoing training on basic and new lab techniques and protocols for employees.
  • Provide direction, feedback, and coaching to track progress and assure outcomes are achieved.
  • May participate in hiring staff and managing the performance of staff to assure staff to assure staff is compliant with UI policies and procedures.
 

Qualifications

 

Required Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • 1 year of experience in biomedical research
  • Willingness to work with animal models of human disease
  • Proficiency in computer software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Commitment to promoting a safe and welcoming work environment
  • Experience with mouse colony setup and maintenance
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture and 3D cultures
  • Experience with bioinformatics, R or Python
  • Experience in protein isolation and analysis (e.g. Western blotting, ELISAs, Immunohistochemistry/immunofluorescence, flow cytometry)
  • Experience in RNA isolation and analysis (e.g. qPCR)
