ITS Operations Tech I or II - (2502856) Position Information 

Houston TranStar has posted a position for an ITS Operations Tech I and II. Some of the duties of this job is to monitor traffic via computerized surveillance and control equipment located within an Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) managed area. He/She will disseminate information to the public through various forms of communication. This work requires contact with governmental and private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details and who can work independently. 40 flexible hours per week, 8-hour shift work, weekend and nights included in shift. We are hiring for the Midday Shift (1:30 pm - 10:00 pm) and the Night Shift (9:30 pm - 6:00 am). Candidates must understand that our Traffic Management Center operates 24/7. Staff will need to be flexible for working overnight and on weekends.

Position Description

 

ITS Operations Tech I
Monitors traffic via computerized surveillance and control equipment located within an Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) managed area. Disseminates information to the public through various forms of communication. Work requires contact with governmental and private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.

ITS Operations Tech II
Monitors traffic via computerized surveillance and control equipment located within an Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) managed area. Disseminates information to the public through various forms of communication. Work requires contact with governmental and private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

Essential Duties:

ITS Operations Tech I and II

  • Advises the general public of traffic conditions through the use of computerized variable message signs, highway advisory radio, and/or low-frequency television broadcasts.
  • Assists in developing routine incident response scenarios.
  • Assists in performing real-time traffic studies to determine traffic routing.
  • Disseminates traffic information through various communication devices to other governmental agencies located within the operations center and/or managed area.
  • Monitors traffic flow and conditions through the use of loop detector systems, closed-circuit television systems, and/or automated vehicle identification systems.
  • Updates traffic management database.
  • Uses two-way radios to interact with other transportation and law enforcement agencies.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
 

Minimum Qualification

ITS Operations Tech I
Education:  High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies. Relevant work experience may be substituted for a degree on a year-for-year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
Experience: 2 years of experience in Traffic studies, analysis, computer ops, electronics, traffic management, and telecommunication ops. (Experience can be satisfied by full-time or prorated part-time equivalent). Related graduate-level education may be substituted for experience on a year-by-year basis.

ITS Operations Tech II
Education:  High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies. Relevant work experience may be substituted for a degree on a year-for-year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
Experience:  3 years of experience in Traffic studies, analysis, computer ops, electronics, traffic management, and telecommunication ops. (Experience can be satisfied by full-time or prorated part-time equivalent). Related graduate-level education may be substituted for experience on a year-by-year basis.
Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
