Job Description
Due to the continued growth and expansion of our Nuclear Team in our Warrington office we are looking to increase our technical workforce and are seeking to recruit a Graduate Nuclear Safety Case Engineer to join our Nuclear Safety Case Discipline for a June 26 onwards start.
About Our Team
At AECOM, our Nuclear Team provide multi-disciplinary consultancy to the nuclear industry for new build, operational facilities and decommissioning.
In the new build sector, we are providing engineering support to the developers of the UK’s fleet of new nuclear power stations and to both UK and international partners for civil and defence nuclear projects. In the operational sector, AECOM provides on-going support to maintain the safety of reactors and associated facilities. In the decommissioning sector, AECOM provides support to the entire Nuclear Estate in the UK, including multidisciplinary support at Sellafield; the early-stage development of the Deep Geological Repository; design and development of waste storage and disposal facilities; and multidisciplinary support to nuclear defence projects.
With an interesting and expanding pipeline of both international and UK based projects, as a Graduate Nuclear Safety Case Engineer, you will be required to both manage and report on your packages of work with support from Senior Nuclear Safety Case Engineers in the team, who will support in your continued development.
Here'S What You'Ll Do:
Graduates commencing their careers with AECOM are engaged into teams and paired with an experienced engineer who will guide and mentor them through the initial stages of their career whilst working on live projects. Your role will include:
Leadership & Management:
- Acting as a nuclear safety case assistant who will support the nuclear portfolio in AECOM (Civil and Defence).
- Supporting maintaining resource competence (SQEP).
Technical Delivery:
- Supporting efforts to win work with respect to nuclear safety.
- Supporting safety case delivery on projects.
- Supporting relationships with clients to deliver a 'right first time' approach for technical delivery.
Development & Knowledge Sharing:
- Supporting the development of nuclear safety training, as well as contributing to multidisciplinary knowledge sharing initiatives.
- Keeping informed of new developments and requirements affecting the organization for the purpose of recommending changes in approach and best practice.

- Honours (2:1 or above) or Masters degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline (or an equivalent mixture of qualifications and experiences from the UK nuclear industry).
- Ability to undertake research and apply findings to real-world situations in support of winning work and delivery.
- Demonstrable interest in Nuclear Engineering and developing a career in this industry.
- Able to demonstrate a commitment to continued education and improvement through participating in our approved training schemes.
- Willing and able to work towards chartership with a professional body such as the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), Nuclear Institute (NI), etc.
- Enthusiastic, hard-working, with ambition and drive.
- Ability to structure & prioritise work effectively through close cooperation with the team as a whole and independently without losing initiative and focus.
- Ability to communicate effectively to internal and external clients, both verbally & in writing with the confidence to engage with a variety of people (clients, colleagues, stakeholders and sub-contractors alike) and the aptitude to rationally explain, explore and discuss technical issues and capture feedback.
- Competent user of the Windows operating system and Microsoft Office.
- Able to able to demonstrate the legal right to work in the UK.
- Able to meet the requirements for Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) and an appropriate level of security clearance in the UK.
