Ambulatory Care Technician MSH Adolescent Health Center FT Days M-F 10a-6p w/EOW
The Ambulatory Care Technician assists in patient care in the outpatient setting, in a support role to the Registered Professional Nurse.
- Obtains and records patients' blood pressure (BP), heart rate (HR), respiration, and temperature.
- Reports changes in patient parameters or unusual values to registered professional nurse or physician.
- Assists with lifting and positioning of patients.
- Assists in the performance of a physical examination under the direction of the Registered Professional Nurse or physician.
- Collects and processes for laboratory examination the following specimens:
- i. Blood (vein, capillary)
- v. Secretion (throat, wound)
- Assists with the preparation and operation of equipment, e.g.:
- Performs electrocardiograms as directed
- Provides assistance with procedures, such as:
Ii. Urine
Iii. Stool
Iv. Sputum
I. Autoclave/Sterilizer
Ii. Cast Equipment/Materials
Iii. Examination Tables
Iv. Ophthalmoscope/Otoscope
V. Proctoscope
Vi. Oxygen
ii. sets up the procedure rooms for selected procedure by getting ready all the needed supplies, and setting up and testing for correct and complete functionality of the equipment
iii. Promptly reports to the Registered Professional Nurse all actual or potential problems regarding supplies and equipment
iv. Observes Infection Control Guidelines including appropriate use of personnel protective equipment
9. Assists in the collection of intake data, e.g.:
I. Personal Data
Ii. Chief Complaint
iii. past, present, family, and social history
Iv. Immunization History
- Participates in the follow up of abnormal test results as directed by the registered professional nurse or physician.
- Orients patients to ambulatory clinical policies and procedures.
- Performs simple dressing changes as ordered by the physician or Registered Professional Nurse.
- Applies principles of aseptic technique and infection control.
- Supports the mission, philosophy and goals of the Department of Nursing and The Mount Sinai Medical Center.
- Communicates in a clear, calm manner that is respectful of patients and family and/or significant others, and personnel involved in the unit.
- Demonstrates a humanistic kind and caring attitude.
- Gives verbal reports to designated Registered Professional Nurse and/or physician.
- Maintains confidentiality of information.
- Maintains competence in various tasks, skills, and functions:
ii. Maintains and increases awareness and adherence to departmental policies, procedures, and practices.
iii. Participates actively to be able to discuss topics covered during staff development.
iv. Demonstrates initiative by reading and applying related materials.
v. Participates in projects and programs carried out within the department.
vi. Reports all problems to Clinical Nurse Manager or designee.
vii. Adheres to dress code in accordance with departmental policy.
viii. Demonstrates awareness of and supports the Patient Bill of Rights.
- Assists in the operational functioning of the unit by ongoing inspection and maintenance to ensure readiness of required equipment.
- Assists with the preparation and maintenance of the medical record.
- Locates resources and information for patients and family members.
- Participates in the continuous quality improvement activities on the unit.
- Assists with maintenance of unit policies and procedures, as well as input during review and updating.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Knowledge of biology, chemistry, mathematics and medical terminology preferredPrefer experience in ambulatory setting or other relevant health care setting.

Compensation Statement
The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $26.21 - $28.45 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
