The 1ES (One Engineering System) team is responsible for enabling the world's best engineering teams with world-class tools and systems that help them ship products their customers love.
We are hiring a Principal Product Manager to build tools that improve productivity for software engineers and AI agents at Microsoft, focusing on testing and verification. This technical role will primarily involve helping developers and AI agents release software with high confidence, executing tests as soon as physics allows and helping developers/AI agents fix test failures faster. Product Managers working on internal developer-facing products benefit from fast-paced experimentation and deep access to 10s of thousands of developers. This environment allows them to learn rapidly and improve solutions before potentially offering them to external developers. The Test platform you will own executes over 30 billion tests and launches more than 50 million virtual machines each month. The gives you the opportunity to interact with and effect change across most product teams at Microsoft.
The ideal candidate would have a background in coding or be a developer interested in transitioning to product management. You should be familiar with the software engineering tools landscape, understand CI/CD systems and have experience pitching ideas for the developer persona. Additionally, you should be using AI and AI-coding tools, capable of writing queries against telemetry databases to identify opportunities and ideally stay updated with the latest developments in the software engineering industry.
Responsibilities
- Own the vision and product roadmap for Testing and Testing AI agents at Microsoft
- Standardize Engineering systems tooling inside Microsoft
- Identify and rally the team around high value opportunities to improve Engineering Productivity, Software Quality and Developer Satisfaction
- Partner closely with the Engineering team to ensure successful realization of outcomes
- Be a power user and evangelist of Engineering Systems products the candidate will own
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree AND 8+ years experience in product management or software development
- OR equivalent experience.
- 3+ years experience as a Software Engineer, actively coding and/or working with software development teams
- Experience using AI for coding and process automation
- Experience writing queries against telemetry databases
- OR equivalent experience.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with the software engineering tools landscape
- Understanding of CI/CD systems and have
- Experience pitching ideas for the developer persona
- Experience creating storyboards and feature specifications
Product Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
