About Lightyear
We’re on a mission to make investing better for everyone in Europe. More specifically, we’re making it light years better (sorry… we had to!). We’re combining multi-currency accounts with unlimited access to global markets so that everyone in Europe can invest without sneaky hidden fees or unnecessary barriers.
In just four years, we’ve gone from idea to fully regulated in both the UK and EU, launched across 25 countries, raised $58M, and built a 70+ strong team from Europe’s top fintechs and startups.
We’re backed by a stellar line-up of investors – including Lightspeed Venture Partners, Sir Richard Branson, Mosaic Ventures, NordicNinja, and some of Europe’s top founders like Taavet Hinrikus (Wise), Jaan Tallinn (Skype), and Markus Villig (Bolt).
Tldr
- Lightyear has grown from zero to $1B+ in customer assets in just four years. Customers in 25 countries trust us with hundreds of millions in monthly trading volume—and they expect a flawless, world-class experience as we continue to grow multiples year over year.
- Brokerage and customer operations are in the centre of the product - ensuring that trading, settlement and funds flows work perfectly, that customer assets are safeguarded as well as keeping customer risk under control.
- Your mission at Lightyear is to build systems that enable Lightyear to offer financial services to 1000x as many customers, at higher quality, and 100% availability without hiring the many people who substitute for poor process design and missing software in incumbent businesses. Every cent we spend is one we have to charge customers.
- You’ll design for reliability and speed, harden critical flows, and ship resilient, automated experiences that are truly bulletproof at scale.
What You Will Do
- Solve hard problems that if unsolved hurt customer experience, incur scaling costs, and create risk for ourselves and customers.
- Own the product strategy and roadmap for our brokerage back-office & operations tooling.
- Partner closely with Brokerage Ops, Compliance Ops, Support Ops, Finance, and Engineering to automate manual workflows (case handling, reconciliations, ledgers, exceptions, corporate actions support), reduce risk, and improve SLAs
- Design systems and processes that let a tiny team support millions of customers using automation, AI, and workflow orchestration as multipliers.
- Define clear success metrics; and iterate based on data and operator feedback.
- Write crisp specs, map processes, and work hands-on with engineers to ship high-leverage tools and processes
- Build or buy: evaluate third-party vendors vs. in-house solutions for KYB/KYC/AML, payments, and reconciliation components.
- Keep us compliant and audit-friendly by partnering with Compliance on fraud/AML requirements and controls.
- Communicate progress and trade-offs to stakeholders across Brokerage, Ops, and Product.
Requirements
- Product management experience building platform/ops products in fintech, brokerage, payments, or similar at scale.
- Technically fluent: comfortable working with data (dashboards/SQL), understanding system boundaries, and discussing event flows/ledgers/reconciliation with engineers and finance.
- Automation obsessed: you follow emerging tech, workflow automation, and AI trends and know how to apply them pragmatically.
- Some knowledge of brokerage or financial operations (settlements, reconciliations, client money, best execution, etc.) or transferable experience from payments, risk, or financial crime.
- Exceptional prioritisation and judgment: able to measure product impact against company KPIs and make clear trade-offs between risk, cost, and quality when multiple teams compete for resources; you know when to say “yes” vs “not now,” and can defend it with data and context.
- Strong written communication and process thinking skills with a bias for action; you’re happy wearing multiple hats in a fast-moving startup.
