Position Description:

The Research Technician I in the Brown Cancer Center will perform genotyping on pigs.  This position assists in logistic of pig shipping and maintenance.  Also, will assist in pig surgery. The primary function is to create and maintain eye cell cultures. The candidate will independently perform immunocytochemical studies on the cells, subject the cells to various experimental conditions, and perform Western blots using the treated cells. Will also be responsible for data recording and data analysis that are then presented at weekly lab meetings. The candidate will plan new experiments independently or with supervisory or senior lab personnel assistance. Will also supply cells to other researchers in the lab and maintain supplies, equipment and stock laboratory solutions. This position assist others in lab experiments and assist with training new lab staff.

Essential Duties:

  • Culture cells from rat eyes, stain for GFAP expression, maintain R.O.N.A. cell cultures, provide cells for other researchers in the labs
  • Plan protocols, perform experiments, record results in immunocytochemistry and Western blot and analyze data
  • Maintain lab inventory, order, prepare and organize data for lab notebooks and weekly meetings to present results
  • Exposing cultured cells to experimental protocols and provide treated cells to other investigators
  • Assist with training of new lab staff
  • Pig Genotyping

  • Logistics of pig shipments
  • Pig Surgery

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Entry level knowledge of theories and practices of a research lab
  • 3-5 years previous experience in a research lab working with animal models (pig and rodent)

Target Compensation Maximum:

$32.17

Target Compensation Minimum:

$21.45

Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
