The Academic Support Specialist II is responsible for programs that support the University of Louisville's focus on undergraduate retention and student success. This includes administration of the curriculum and instruction of required coursework for students placed on academic warning; outreach and support for students who are admitted conditionally; supporting students who are identified as being underprepared or underperforming.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Administration of the intervention coursework focused on helping students who are placed on academic probation.
- Design and update curriculum.
- Serve as an instructor and provide training and logistical support to other university staff and faculty who teach the intervention course.
- Uphold university policies around course completion and participation in academic coaching. Recruitment, hiring, training, payment coordination, supervision, and evaluation/feedback of professional instructors for intervention coursework.
- Engage in proactive outreach efforts with undergraduate students, especially FTIC (first time in college).
- Utilize CardSmart and university communication platforms to reinforce the use of academic support services, programs, and staff who focus on student success.
- Coordinate referrals to these offices and staff.
- Coordinate messaging and outreach to students who are conditionally admitted to the university once they matriculate.
- Provide connections to key academic programs and services, information about key academic dates, communicating and reinforcing the university’s academic requirements, and providing referrals to university personnel and services that foster student success efforts and goals.
- Collaborate with REACH Coordinator for Retention Initiatives to support Learning Contract students in compliance with state law 13 KAR 2.020.
- Regularly examine university policies, language, and communication channels regarding academic warning and probation status.
- Work with academic colleges and the Provost’s Office to make changes that better support undergraduate students.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional experience in a college, university learning center.
- Master’s degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, or similar programs.
- Supervisory and training experience with college students.
- Preference for instructional experience at the college level (does not have to be discipline specific).

Target Compensation Salary $52,000
Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
