Senior Technical Officer in Electron Microscope Unit (Electron Microscopy in Materials Science) (Ref.: 533332) (to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 10% of basic salary, with the possibility of renewal subject to funding availability and satisfactory performance)
Applicants should possess a master's degree in materials science, chemistry, physics, or a related discipline. Excellent communication skills in both written and spoken English and Chinese; strong interpersonal skills in a user-facing facility environment.
Essential Qualifications And Experience:
- At least 8 years of relevant experience in materials-focused electron microscopy in research settings;
- Demonstrated expertise in TEM, SEM, and FIB operation, including site-specific preparation of TEM lamellae and cross-sections;
- Proven proficiency of training, certifying, and mentor users (students, postdocs, PIs) on TEM/SEM/FIB operation, safety, and best practices for materials workflows;
- Experienced with consultation on experiment design and sample-prep strategy;
- Proven proficiency with EELS and EBSD data acquisition and analysis; strong command of materials EM sample preparation techniques;
- Track record of troubleshooting instruments and workflows, adhering to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and maintaining accurate documentation.
The appointee will play a vital role in the overall operations of the Electron Microscope Unit. Responsibilities include assisting with the operation of electron microscopes, sample preparation, management procedures, and maintaining the facilities dedicated to electron microscopy.
