The successful candidate will be supported either to develop and grow their academic profile (for Level B) in an inclusive, future-focused environment and contribute to delivering Climate Safe Engineering from Tasmania to the world or will be empowered to help lead the development of a distinctive teaching and research culture focused on climate adaptation and mitigation (Level C). The successful candidate will embed climate-safe approaches—such as risk-informed infrastructure design, bushfire and flood resilience, and the use of low-carbon construction materials and methods—into curriculum and applied research.
What You’Ll Do:
- Make an effective and sustained contribution to the University in achieving its strategic objectives and fulfilling its operational responsibilities.
- Undertake high-quality research in climate safe engineering of national and increasingly of international standing, secure external competitive and other funding, publish research findings and create research impact in a broader sense and contribute to the successful supervision of research higher degree students for Level B or successfully supervise research higher degree students to completion for Level C, in order to meet and regularly exceed the University’s research performance expectations.
- Undertake scholarly undergraduate (and if relevant postgraduate) coursework teaching of a high quality or an exemplary quality, including preparation and delivery of state-of-the-art and future-looking curriculum and content with a climate safe engineering focus.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of productive and effective links inside the University and locally and nationally with discipline, relevant interdisciplinary domains, profession, industry and/or wider community.
- Deliver successful teaching and research outcomes in Climate Safe engineering.
- Increasingly provide academic leadership, particularly in fostering outstanding research and/or learning and teaching for Level C.
What We’Re Looking For:
- An excellent record of, and continuing commitment to, research that has achieved national recognition and made worthwhile contributions to the field of Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or Water Resources Engineering (including engineering for zero emissions and for mitigating impacts of climate change induced hazards for Level C), demonstrated by a record of quality publications, presentations at conferences and preferably success in securing external competitive and other funding.
- Experience in University-level teaching and learning for Level B or/and demonstrated achievement in University-level teaching and learning for Level C.
- A record of good contributions to successful research higher degree supervision and completions for Level C.
- A record of contributing to building and maintaining effective and productive links locally and nationally with the discipline, profession, industry (where relevant) and wider community.
- An awareness of commercial and financial aspects of professional engineering, including the value of research and application of new knowledge in industry.
