This is a grant funded position with current funding ending 6/30/2026. Continuation of employment is contingent upon new grant funding.
Position Summary
Under the direction of the Assistant Director of SBDC, the Small Business Advisor/SBM Instructor provides leadership, client advising and instruction to existing and prospective small business owners in Lincoln County. This position will provide one-on-one business advising to small businesses along with creating and/or delivering training courses based on experience and interest.
Duties & Responsibilities
Sbdc Business Advisor
- Instruct and coach beginning enterprises whose knowledge of the business arena may be in the very early stages of development.
- Work with established businesses in addressing their changing business management needs.
- Use web-based database to track and record client counseling activities and hours, and submit written reports upon request.
- Work with the director and advisory committee to update OCCC SBDC strategic plan.
- Work with funding partners and college personnel to provide information for tracking client and program success.
- Work closely with other instructors, advisors and staff members to serve SBDC clients and partners.
- Obtain current market information.
Sbdc/Sbm Instructor
- Teach and advise on a variety of topics based on interest and skill set, including but not limited to: marketing, record keeping, personnel management, financial management, business planning, laws and legislation affecting business.
- Courses may be taught in OCCC classrooms, at partner locations or online.
- Develop and revise training curriculum, marketing materials and business assistance tools, as needed.
Sbdc Support
- Act as liaison between local government agencies or people regulating, assisting or affecting business management and operations in Lincoln County.
- Strives to create and support an inclusive work environment that is committed to providing equitable services to all our clients.
Miscellaneous
- Participates in training, in-services and professional development
- Supports student success through participation in college committee work, Welcome Week, OCCC Cares, Commencement and/or related activities.
- Performs other duties, as assigned, that support the College’s mission.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position does not have any supervisory responsibility but may lead the work of Student, Volunteer, and/or Temporary Staff assigned to the area.
Leading Work Includes:
- Train and orient new hires in position tasks.
- Provide instructions on work tasks.
- Offer guidance, encouragement, and answer questions to ensure work tasks are completed efficiently.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Small business experience-started or running your own small business
-Or-
- A business degree or related degree-accounting, education, communications, or financial management
- Experience/education in creating and understanding financial statements as well as accounting
- Experience planning, preparing and executing presentations
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience/ education in business, advising, or instructing
- Experience managing employees
- Experience with providing instruction to adult learners
- Bilingual – Spanish
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Qualifications
- Ability to work with a variety of team members and clients.
- Ability to provide advice to small businesses and entrepreneurs
- Ability to work independently
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Excel and Word, email, the Internet and social media
- Demonstrated skill in the delivery of one-on-one and public presentations
- Knowledge of business plan development
- Knowledge and understanding of financial statements
- Knowledge of marketing principles
- Ability to set priorities and complete assignments on time
- Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work while meeting multiple deadlines
Working Environment & Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is:
- Frequently required to sit, see and talk or hear.
- Often required to have mobility to move between offices, classrooms, and floors.
- Use hands to finger, handle or operate computers, objects, tools or controls.
- Reach with hands and arms.
- Light physical exertion with occasional, bending, stooping, pulling, and moderate lifting.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and have the ability to carry equipment and tools of moderate weight, using arms and hands.
- Specific vision and hearing abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus, and complete and maintain various types of records.
- Ability to hear the conversational voice and effectively communicate responses.
- Work occurs in an office environment with potential for interruptions and background noise.
Assignment will include presence at all primary OCCC locations and may include evening and weekend work. Travel between College sites and other locations will be required. Occasional travel and overnight stays outside of Lincoln County may be required for training and other purposes.
