As an active member of the Electrical, Instrumentation & Automation Project Team within Asset Management, the purpose of the Group Expert - Automation is to provide the highest level of technical expertise in both projects and existing assets. This role is crucial for ensuring Design Quality and efficient Engineering in our Studies and Projects, while being a member of the Project Management Team.
Your Key Responsibilities Include:
- Project and Asset Support:
- Participate in project management teams for studies and investment projects.
- Provide technical support to all Borealis assets.
- Ensure compliance with Borealis project procedures and engineering design standards.
- Document Development and Maintenance:
- Support the development, review and update of Borealis Engineering Documents in the area of Automation.
- Strategic Planning and Roadmap Contribution:
- Contribute to the strategic planning with a focus on safety, sustainability and market developments.
- Technical Expertise and Leadership:
- Improve Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) performance and act as a role model.
- Collaborate with international engineering and construction companies, providing support in your area of expertise and ensuring the use of the latest proven technology.
- Review and approve Technical Bid Evaluations and assist in selecting Automation Vendors.
- Lead and resolve major technical problems
- Participate in cross-functional teams and companywide Technical Network.
- Lead or support training programs for Automation Engineers.
- Promote innovative thinking and strive for "fit for purpose" solutions that deliver business value.
- Participate in project management teams for studies and investment projects.

This position is ideal for a seasoned professional with extensive experience in Automation engineering and project management, looking to make a significant impact within a leading organization in the petrochemical sector.
About You
If you possess the following competences, skills and attitudes, you can excel in this exciting role.
- Education: Master Degree in Process Automation, Instrumentation and Controls or other relevant field, or equivalent experience.
- Professional experience: 10 – 15 years of experience in the Petrochemical / Refinery industry or a similar business environment; minimum of 10 years of experience in capital project execution; experience in Maintenance is an advantage.
- Technical knowledge: Strong knowledge of Automation Engineering (Automation Systems, SIS, Communication Protocols etc.) and market equipment; Understanding of plant engineering (Green Field and Brown Field), construction and commissioning processes; Good knowledge of Instrumentation and Electrical Standards (IEC, EN); Good knowledge of Safety Instrumented System lifecycle activities and deliverables; Familiarity with other international standards (ISA, ANSI, API, etc.)..
- Project management: project management skills and experience in all project phases are an advantage
- Soft skills: excellent communication skills; team player capable of working effectively in a multicultural environment; excellent IT skills; fluency in verbal and written English
- Travel: Willingness to travel on global basis is required.

Your salary package will reflect your profile, experience and the specifics of the country/location you apply for.
Should you join us in one of our Austrian locations and according to Austrian law , we offer compensation based on the collective labor agreement starting at EUR 94.400 annual gross salary (based on 38 hrs/week) plus a yearly bonus, and are willing to pay more based on your experience and background
