About This Opportunity
As a Senior Network Engineer, you will play a vital role in ensuring the reliability, security, and performance of UQ’s diverse network infrastructure across core, data centre, campus, and remote sites. Working as part of the Infrastructure Project team, you’ll contribute to the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of highly available network services, supporting both operational excellence and strategic projects. This role also involves providing technical leadership, mentoring others, and collaborating with stakeholders to deliver innovative solutions that keep UQ connected.
Key Responsibilities Will Include:
- Designing, implementing, and maintaining network infrastructure that supports UQ’s large and complex environment.
- Providing advanced troubleshooting, technical support, and maintenance to ensure secure and highly available network services.
- Leading and supporting IT change and implementation projects, including evaluation of new technologies and systems.
- Contributing to governance, cyber security practices, and continuous service improvements across UQ’s network environment.

About You
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Network Engineer who thrives in complex environments and enjoys solving technical challenges with innovative solutions. With a strong foundation in enterprise networking and a proactive, detail-oriented approach, you will bring both technical expertise and leadership capability to UQ’s Infrastructure Project team.
You Will Bring:
- A degree in Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a related field with extensive relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Proven experience delivering large-scale networking uplift and replacement programs in enterprise environments.
- Exposure to Software Defined Networking technologies (e.g., Cisco SDA, DNAC, ACI, or similar).
- Advanced skills in analysis, design, operation, and maintenance of network and communications infrastructure (e.g., BGP, MPLS, wireless LANs, IP Telephony, disaster recovery).
- Experience with scripting (e.g., Python, NodeJS, PHP) to achieve network automation.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with clients and colleagues.
- Self-motivation and the ability to work independently while managing competing priorities with attention to detail.
- Demonstrated experience providing technical leadership, mentoring, and guiding decision-making within project teams.
- (Desirable) Industry certifications such as CCNA or CCNP, plus exposure to cloud, storage, firewalls, ITIL, or service management frameworks.
