Chemical Development Lead
Position Purpose:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Chemical Development Lead to join our Global Crop Protection Innovation Team (CPI) based out of Vapi, focusing on the process development of agrochemicals. The successful candidate will act as a technical project lead within an international, cross-functional project team and play a crucial role in developing process for Bayer’s portfolio of crop protection solutions. The candidate will lead the team for transferring the developed technologies within Bayers internal manufacturing network or to a tolling partner
Role And Responsibilities
- Screen and Evaluate Chemical Literature and Patents:
- Analyze chemical literature and patents to ensure the development of competitive and innovative processes for crop protection agents.
- Invent and Develop Synthetic Routes:
- Led a team of process development chemists for developing safe, robust, and cost-effective synthetic routes for the manufacturing of crop protection agents.
- Optimize Chemical Processes:
- Develop and optimize chemical processes to produce both new and established agrochemicals, with a focus on cost, quality, safety, and sustainability.
- Analyze chemical literature and patents to ensure the development of competitive and innovative processes for crop protection agents.
- Led a team of process development chemists for developing safe, robust, and cost-effective synthetic routes for the manufacturing of crop protection agents.
- Develop and optimize chemical processes to produce both new and established agrochemicals, with a focus on cost, quality, safety, and sustainability.
- Lead Multi-Step Experimental Studies:
- Plan, design, and execute complex experimental studies, utilizing risk assessments to ensure the delivery of safe, efficient, and scalable manufacturing processes.

- Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams:
- Work closely with analytical chemists, process engineers, the pilot plant team, and project managers within the Global Crop Protection Innovation organization to achieve project goals.

- Prepare Technical Documentation:
- Draft Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), technical reports, presentations, and technology dossiers for process documentation and knowledge transfer.

- Transfer Processes to Manufacturing Scale:
- Oversee the transfer of new processes to the pilot plant, ensuring a smooth handover to active ingredient (AI) manufacturing plants or tolling partners.

- Tolling partners for improving the process and technology transfer
- Collaborate with University professors, and contract research organizations to develop the process using the best technologies available
- Coordinate with vendors and Engineers for instrument Purchase/installation and maintenance activities
- External Statutory auditors
- Provide technical support to RRA, Excise department and foreign trade departments
Who You Are:
- Ph.D./PostDoc in Organic Chemistry, Natural Product Synthesis, or a comparable scientific discipline from a reputed Indian or international institute.
- 20 years of experience in Chemical Process Development, Technology Piloting, and improving chemical manufacturing processes.
- Strong expertise in modern synthetic methodologies and a solid understanding of organic reaction mechanisms.
- Experience with Process Analytical Technologies (PAT), DSC, ARC, and Calorimetry for process understanding and control will be an added advantage.
- Proven problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, guide, and develop team members.
- High level of assertiveness with a collaborative team-oriented approach.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to multitask and manage complex projects within an interdisciplinary, international team.
- Capable of challenging assumptions and fostering innovation to drive results.
- Self-driven with a passion for continuous learning and development.
- Experience mentoring and training junior Process Chemists.
