Our researchers focus on topics of relevance to people with brain injury, spinal cord injury, amputation, persistent pain and other chronic disabling conditions that have lifelong implications for individuals, their families and support services. The Centre is leading the way in interdisciplinary applied research that examines disability and rehabilitation practices, services and systems. It provides a vehicle for driving improvements in service delivery by facilitating research that is embedded in practice.

Metro South Hospital and Health Service and Griffith University have a strong history of collaboration on recovery, rehabilitation & resilience research and service development. This collaboration has an interest in developing and conducting research of relevance of rehabilitation across complex environments.

Job Description

As the Research Fellow, you will be employed in The Hopkins Centre, a joint research initiative between the Department of Rehabilitation, Metro South Health and Griffith University. The position will be focused on research for the Aus-InSCI Translation Project, translating community survey findings to improve clinical practice and outcomes for Queensland and Australia with Spinal Cord Injury.

Reporting to the Director of The Hopkins and Project Manager, the position will undertake research activities and objectives in line with The Hopkins Centre and project research agenda.

The successful candidate will plan and complete day to day project research activities, manage research ethics and governance, facilitate data collection and focus groups, and conduct research translation and implementation activities. The research fellow will be involved in building collaborative research relationships with key stakeholders, clinicians, investigators, partners, citizen researchers, external parties and other research staff to conduct research activities, outputs and translation and dissemination of research. The role will also involve coordinating numerous day to day research activities, fieldwork, data collection, , research translation and implementation activities, publications, reporting, development of resource materials, workshop/ focus groups, and research administration functions. The role includes mentoring research assistants, honours students and higher degree research candidates (HDR) contributing to Centre research agenda and programs of work.

This is a part time (50%), fixed term position for 2 years based at the Hopkins PAH Project office and Brisbane South (Nathan) campus. 

As Griffith is a multi-campus University you may be required to work across other campus locations and project offices. Griffith University’s campuses are located on the lands of the Yugarabul, Yuggera, Jagera, Turrbal, Yugambeh and Kombumerri peoples.

Salary range
The base salary for a Research Fellow (Grade 1) is in the range $88,689 - $103,888 per annum, plus 17% superannuation. The total FTE package including 17% superannuation will be in the range $103,767 - $121,549 per annum.

Qualifications

The successful applicant will hold PhD qualifications in a relevant field of health research, rehabilitation or disability. It is highly desirable that you have experience in conducting research with people with neurological and/or spinal cord injury conditions.

In additional to the above, you will have

  • Research experience in exploring better outcomes to enhance the quality of life for People with Disability and people with Spinal Cord Injury,
  • Demonstrated experience with quantitative and/or qualitative methodologies.
  • Experience managing numerous multi-disciplinary collaborative local and national projects and research activities, and the
  • Ability to prioritise work, meet deadlines and action research as it applies to the research agenda.
  • Well-developed or emerging publication record relative to opportunity in esteemed peer-reviewed journals.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with a proven ability to effectively communicate and present research findings, as well as communicating with a wide range of stakeholders and academic audiences.
