Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('Versant') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025.
Job Description
Versant Media is seeking a strategic and operationally-minded Vice President of Scheduling Fulfillment & Project Planning to lead the transformation and optimization of our resource scheduling and project planning processes across News and Sports. This role will oversee the evolution of our resource scheduling tool ShowRunner and guide its expansion to replace legacy systems and workflows to align with Versant’s broader operational strategy. This role is accountable for ensuring compliance with union agreements and the accuracy of pay for the team whose wage is calculated through the scheduling platform. The VP will provide oversight of these critical functions while directing a team member who is responsible for the day-to-day.
The VP will also manage a team of project planners responsible for coordinating the Creative team’s set and fabrication projects and large-scale production initiatives. Familiarity with news operations and studio workflows is essential. This role will report directly to the SVP, Creative Production.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own and evolve the scheduling resource tool ShowRunner, aligning its capabilities with Versant’s strategic goals.
- Lead the integration of Showrunner into other departments, replacing existing scheduling platforms.
- Collaborate with technology and operations teams to ensure seamless implementation and adoption.
Scheduling Fulfillment:
- Oversee scheduling for news and sports studios and control rooms, including physical spaces and human resource assignments.
- Manage shift planning, work order assignments, and post-production scheduling.
- Ensure efficient resource utilization and conflict-free scheduling across departments.
- Provide oversight to ensure compliance with union agreements and accurate worker pay, working with a Director who will manage the operational details.
Creative Project Management:
- Lead a team of project planners managing set builds and creative production initiatives.
- Coordinate with Production Ops and RTG to ensure timely execution of design and build projects
- Provide production expertise and creative direction for large-scale initiatives, including new and upgrading software implementations.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Partner with News, Sports, Creative and Technology teams to align planning efforts with editorial and production needs.
- Serve as a key liaison between scheduling, planning, and operational teams to drive efficiency and innovation.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience in media production operations, with a strong background in scheduling and planning.
- Proven leadership in managing cross-functional teams and complex projects.
- Deep understanding of news operations, studio workflows, and control room logistics.
- Knowledge of union agreements and workforce compliance and a demonstrated ability to oversee payroll accuracy and labor-related obligations.
- Experience with scheduling tools and software implementation.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to drive change and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
Additional Information
This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.
