Position Overview:

The Business Relationship Officer is responsible for providing financial solutions, education and advice to our business members. This position will manage a portfolio of business members by building relationships and providing financial advice with a focus on member experience and risk management. This position will also play a crucial role in supporting the organization's commercial lending activities by assessing and evaluating commercial loan applications, managing business member relationships, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.  

Duties And Responsibilities:

  • Build an effective network of internal and external relationships, such as community or industry relationships, to actively acquire new members and/or expand existing memberships and enhance the member experience
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with existing and potential business members; 
  • Evaluate and analyze commercial loan applications, including financial statements, credit reports, and other relevant documents to determine credit worthiness
  • Conduct thorough due diligence and risk assessments on potential borrowers to ensure loan feasibility and compliance with lending policies
  • Collaborate with clients to understand their financing needs and provide appropriate loan options and structures
  • Prepare comprehensive loan proposals, including terms, conditions, and repayment schedules
  • Serve as the primary point of contact throughout the loan application process, addressing their inquiries and providing updates on loan status
  • Use knowledge of business, finance, banking, credit and risk management to identify, recommend and promote business services solutions tailored to the financial needs of the member’s business and that ensure the future viability of the portfolio
  • Identify the personal financial goals and needs of business members; build collaborative relationships across lines of business (Investment Center, Mortgage Lending, Consumer Lending, Branch and Digital Teams) to connect members with specialists who can help meet their financial needs
  • Provide deposit and cash management solutions and manage aggregate credit relationships up to $5,000,000
  • Work within risk parameters that protect the credit union. Protect the credit union by following sound risk management protocols and adhering to regulatory requirements. Seek out expertise of others to enhance existing knowledge and ensure a positive member experience.
  • Regularly conduct in-person calls with prospective members, centers of influence (COIs), and existing members at their places of business
  • Participate in networking events to expand business opportunities and promote the Credit Union's business services
  • Keep up-to-date with external market events, pressures and regulations which may impact the business and assesses whether similar issues exist in the business
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications And Skills:

  • 5+ years’ experience in a business banking relationship management role or related business lending experience 
  • 3+ years’ experience in Commercial Real Estate Lending and Small Business Lending 
  • Solid understanding of C&I loans; knowledge, insight, and understanding of business concepts
  • Ability to maintain and apply a thorough understanding of the credit union's business lending policy, member eligibility and all necessary business practices to
  • Strong current business network preferred
  • Highly proficient in MS Office tools 
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills required with a high degree of accuracy
  • Aptitude to work independently as well as part of a team and ability to collaborate with others
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Time Management skills and the ability to prioritize workload based on department and member needs
  • Flexibility to adapt and succeed in a dynamic environment
  • Ability to travel occasionally for key business meetings and training
  • Ability to consistently achieve $250,000 in Business Lending monthly applications
  • Ability to consistently achieve $1MM in Commercial Real Estate Lending monthly

Workplace Environment:

  • Working in a stationary position for 95% of the work day
  • Utilizing the telephone 20% of the day
  • Moving, lifting and/or carrying 20 pounds with or without accommodations
  • Bending, twisting, kneeling, stooping or crouching when appropriate, on occasion
  • Repetitive movements, including but not limited to typing, mouse navigation, phones, etc. 
  • Work at a fast pace to meet member loan demand
  • Requires face-to-face interaction and/or coordination of work with other employees and departments, and in-person interaction

Required Work Schedule:
Standard Monday through Friday business hours, but may also require occasional weekend and evening work based on the need of business members. Consistent and reliable attendance is a required essential function of this role to meet the needs of the department/team and organization.

Location:  This position will have the opportunity to work mostly virtual, with onsite expectations in St. Paul, MN at least monthly for team meetings.  

Compensation:

This position has a starting pay range of $76,700 - $97,850 annually.

This range reflects what we anticipate offering a successful candidate based on factors such as the role’s responsibilities, required qualifications, and relevant experience. The actual pay may vary depending on the selected candidate’s skills, experience, and other qualifications.
