At Shumaker, the Accounting Clerk is responsible for supporting a variety of daily accounting functions, with a focus on accounts receivable and accounts payable. This role ensures accurate financial processing and provides coverage across multiple firm locations during peak periods and staff absences. We are seeking a candidate with at least 1+ years of relevant accounting experience to join our team.
This position will work in-person in either our Toledo, Ohio office or Tampa, Florida office.
Essential Duties
Accounts Receivable
- Enter cash receipts from checks, credit cards, ACH, and wire transfers.
- Research and resolve accounts receivable and collections issues.
- Manage the accounts receivable inbox.
- Process incoming trust receipts.
- Provide coverage for AR and collections tasks during busy periods and team member vacations.
- Code and enter invoices.
- Prepare check runs and distribute payments across offices and vendors.
- Research and resolve accounts payable issues with vendors.
- Enter and reconcile firm credit card activity.
- Provide coverage for AP tasks during busy periods and team member vacations.
- Perform other accounting-related tasks as assigned by the Accounting Department.
- Associate's Degree or higher required.
- Basic understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) with at least 1 year of professional accounting experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Frequent sitting (up to 6 hours/day), with static posture for up to 30 minutes at a time.
- Occasional bending and stooping (up to 30 minutes/day).
