Summary Description

This position is responsible for all aspects of maintaining the production/handling equipment and facilities at the plant to ensure efficient operations.  This is a hands-on supervisor that prioritizes the assignments of the maintenance department and works alongside maintenance and production personnel to accomplish tasks.

Essential Duties

Essential duties are interpreted as being descriptive and not restrictive in nature.  Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Performs all work in a safe manner; promotes and fosters a safe work environment.
  2. Develops and maintains preventative maintenance programs on all equipment to prevent unplanned down time.
  3. Manages maintenance labor, contract maintenance labor, maintenance parts, and facilities’ budgets within specified levels.
  4. Ensures accurate records and inventories are maintained on PEMAC system.
  5. Evaluates performance of maintenance personnel and strives for improvement.
  6. Provides training and certification support to all maintenance personnel to improve job and safety performance.
  7. Provides focused troubleshooting support to keep production lines running efficiently and to insure specified levels of product quality.
  8. Communicates with line supervisors and operators, develops training modules on procedures or process corrective actions, and leads training sessions.
  9. Performs all work in a safe manner.
  10. Installs/repairs all equipment and machinery.
  11. Monitors equipment performance.
  12. Assists with equipment change over.
  13. Assists Maintenance Engineer /Technician repairing or modifying line equipment.
  14. Performs preventative maintenance on all equipment.
  15. Generates ideas to improve efficiency and productivity.
  16. Works to eliminate future mechanical problems.
  17. Performs inspections as required including all areas covered by Process Safety Management (PSM).
  18. Maintains a clean work area.
  19. Maintains building utility services. Works with external contractors as needed.

Supervisory Duties: Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Company's policies and applicable laws.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

Education and/or Experience:  Bachelor’s degree in a technical field, or equivalent combination of education/work experience, with a minimum of 5 years manufacturing experience, including facilities maintenance experience.  Must have a thorough knowledge of mechanical devices and apparatus, and be familiar with all basic mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic equipment repair and techniques. Plastics extrusion and foam extrusion experience preferred. Boilers license qualification preferred.

Must Have:

  • Prior experience supervising hourly and technical personnel,
  • Working knowledge of production and safety procedures, including lock-out/tag-out.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations.
  • A working knowledge of computer software such as MS Office and Outlook.
  • Working knowledge of SAP, or similar type software is preferred.

Must Be Able To:

  • Work in a team-based environment.
  • Work a variety of shifts, including evenings, late nights, weekends, and overtime, as needed.
  • Follow directions and get along well with others.

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Must be able to communicate at a high level, orally and written, in English.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures by using basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply and divide). 

Reasoning Skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
