Lerners is seeking a Legal Assistant to support the Family Law practice group in the London, Ontario office. The ideal candidate will preferably have over 2 years of experience working in a similar position; however, this is not a prerequisite. This is a Hybrid position and requires a minimum of 3 days in office or as required. 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Answering the phone and handling cold calls.
  • Scheduling appointments.
  • Opening and closing files, conducting conflict searches.
  • Organizing retainer and privacy documents.
  • Detailed file organization, paper and electronic filing.
  • Maintain lawyer’s calendar and an effective bring forward (BF) system.
  • Preparation of accounts, deposit of cash receipts, payment of invoices.
  • Drafting correspondence to clients and lawyers.
  • Setting up teleconferences, case conferences, and settlement conferences.
  • Issuing Orders.
  • Updating Continuing Records and Motion Records.
  • Serving and filing all documents in connection with family court proceedings, and use of Case Center to upload and organize court documents.

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience as a Legal Assistant is preferred but not required.
  • Experience in family law is an asset.
  • Knowledge of DivorceMate is an asset.
  • Keen attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • A strong work ethic.
  • The ability to work effectively on a team and individually.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to receive feedback.
  • Experience with technology and working in a hybrid environment.
  • Experience with ACL and Document Management Systems is an asset.
