Principal Engineer I Spe

Mission of the Role: To drive the development and continuous improvement of the Americas Supplier Network by ensuring the successful industrialization and performance of mechanical components, supporting Visteon’s global manufacturing operations through technical expertise, supplier collaboration, and strategic sourcing.

Key Objectives Of This Role:

  • Identify and develop new suppliers in the Americas region through comprehensive potential analyses.
  • Lead supplier development initiatives focused on new technologies and technical capabilities.
  • Ensure flawless industrialization of mechanical components using APQP/MLA methodologies.
  • Manage supplier performance during series production, ensuring quality, delivery, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide technical support for quality issue resolution and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure timely and quality delivery of components to global manufacturing sites.

Key Performance Indicators

  • Number of new suppliers successfully onboarded and industrialized.
  • On-time launch of mechanical components with zero major quality issues.
  • Reduction in supplier-related quality incidents (e.g., PPM, customer complaints).
  • Timeliness and effectiveness of corrective actions implemented.
  • Supplier performance metrics (OTD, quality scorecards, audit results).
  • Number of supplier improvement initiatives completed.
  • Compliance with APQP/MLA milestones and deliverables.

Key Year One Deliverables:

  • Complete potential analysis and onboarding of at least 3 new suppliers in the Americas region.
  • Lead the industrialization of key mechanical components for upcoming programs, ensuring on-time and quality launches.
  • Implement at least 2 supplier development projects focused on new technologies or critical capabilities.
  • Achieve a measurable reduction in supplier-related quality issues (e.g., 20% reduction in PPM).
  • Conduct or support at least 3 supplier audits (ISO 9001, IATF 16949, or VDA 6.3).
  • Establish a robust monitoring and reporting system for supplier performance.

Qualification, Experience And Skills:

Required Skills.

  • 5 years of relevant experience in manufacturing, process/product engineering, or supplier quality within the mechanical transformation industry (e.g., stamping, die casting, injection molding).
  • Strong knowledge of Automotive Quality Core Tools: APQP, FMEA, Control Plan, PPAP, MSA, SPC.
  • Proficient in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Skilled in problem-solving using statistical tools and methodologies; Green Belt certification is a plus.
  • Experience conducting audits (ISO 9001, IATF 16949, or VDA 6.3); VDA 6.3 certification is desirable.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Proficiency in English is required.
