Position Summary
The incumbent is responsible for supporting planners in the Planning and Development Services Department. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to assisting staff with the completion of planning studies, research, data analysis, preparation of planning documents (e.g., official plans, zoning by-laws, etc.) and reports for the County's local municipalities.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Planning Services:
- Conduct research into various issues related to Official Plan or Zoning By-law updates for local municipalities or the County Official Plan.
- Work with Planners in local municipalities to review and assess various planning applications.
- Assist County Staff in the preparation of reports on various local planning applications.
- Assist County staff with the presentation of applications to decision makers (i.e., Committee of Adjustment, Council) or assisting with public open houses/engagement on planning topics.
- Assist Planners with conducting site visits.
- Compile research data and materials on planning issues.
General:
- Incumbents must keep up-to-date on all relevant legislation, collective bargaining agreements, County Policies and Procedures, etc. ensuring that these are implemented as prescribed
- Incumbents must possess the physical ability to meet the duties and responsibilities of the job description and/or the requirements identified within the position's Physical Demands Analysis

Credentials Required
Minimum Formal Education
- Currently enrolled in an Urban and Regional Planning or related University program.
- Registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year and returning to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year.
Experience
- Strong research, data analysis, communication, and computer skills are vital to this role.
- High level of proficiency in computer applications (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite – Excel, Outlook, Word, Access, PowerPoint)
- Strong analytical, investigative, research skills and problem-solving skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
