Job Summary of the Engineer I, R&D
The Engineer I, Research & Development, supports the development of innovative products to treat peripheral nerve injuries. Working under close guidance, this role contributes to design, test execution, data analysis, and documentation within Axogen’s product development processes while collaborating with cross‑functional partners in Quality, Operations, Marketing, Regulatory, and Medical Affairs. This position requires strong technical aptitude, a collaborative mindset, and the initiative to move ideas forward decisively. Strong written and verbal technical communication is required to document results and share findings with internal stakeholders.
Requirements of the Engineer I, R&D
- Bachelor's degree required in Biomedical engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering or a related field.
- Experience in the medical device or pharmaceutical industry preferred. Product development experience preferred.
Responsibilities of the Engineer I, R&D
The specific duties of the Engineer I, R&D include but are not limited to:
- Contributes to the design and development of new products under the direction of senior engineering staff.
- Works cooperatively with Quality, Operations, Marketing, Regulatory, and Medical Affairs to ensure project success.
- Performs defined technical tasks and experiments in the laboratory as part of the product development lifecycle.
- Ideates and prototypes concepts and designs. Optimizes designs through testing, experimentation, analyses, and evaluations.
- Conducts studies, analyzes quantitative data, forms conclusions, and provides technical recommendations.
- Prepares technical documentation, including protocols and reports.
- Conducts literature reviews and gathers data to support product design decisions.
- Ensures all activities are performed in compliance with quality management system and relevant regulatory and industry standards.
- Maintains appropriate detailed documentation.

This position is eligible for an annual bonus.

Salary Range$61,194—$76,491 USDAxogen follows healthcare system guidelines with respect to credentialing, vaccinations and other employment/compliance related requirements, as well as CDC guidance. Axogen reserves the right to amend its policies from time to time in its sole discretion.
