The Opportunity

Our Australian Steel Markets (ASM) business is looking for a motivated and results-driven Business Development Manager in our Building Markets team based in Wingfield, SA. In this strategic opportunity, you will play a key role in shaping growth across the Residential and Commercial & Industrial Building Markets sector in Adelaide, SA. With a strong emphasis on face-to-face relationship building, you’ll represent BlueScope ASM across metropolitan Adelaide, engaging with a diverse customer base, including rollformers, fabricators, fixers, residential and commercial builders, and key industry associations. You’ll be provided with support for effective travel, allowing you to focus on delivering value to customers.

You won’t just be driving sales, you’ll be nurturing trusted partnerships, uncovering new opportunities, and helping to create solutions that deliver real value for customers. Your insights and actions will directly influence our success in the market and make a lasting impact on both our business and the industries we serve.

This is a 12-month fixed-term contract, offering the opportunity to retain and grow valued customer relationships by delivering tailored, value-added solutions. The role involves regular site visits, some out-of-hours commitments, and attendance at events. You’ll have the autonomy and flexibility to manage your schedule to meet customer needs while balancing work commitments effectively.

What Will You Do?

You’ll engage, build and nurture positive relationships with customers, government officials, and industry partners to influence decisions and build long-term partnerships within the region. You’ll also:

  • develop and deliver a state-based sales plan aligned with national and product strategies
  • identify and convert new opportunities that expand our market presence and increase share of wallet within the building markets sector
  • work closely with sales, marketing, technical and customer service teams to deliver on account strategies
  • provide needed support and represent the business at key industry and trade networking events
  • maintain accurate reporting and documentation, using market intelligence and customer insights to shape strategies and identify new growth opportunities

  • excellent communication and influencing skills with the ability to build long-term, trust-based relationships with customers and stakeholders at all levels
  • strategic thinking skills, commercial acumen, and negotiation skills to balance customer needs with business profitability
  • success in managing pricing strategies and growing customer portfolios
  • an ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong organisational and time management skills
  • experience using MS Office Suite and CRM tools to manage opportunities and create focus
