Senior Financial Controller (future Head of Finance)

What You’Ll Be Working On:

This opportunity is for an experienced candidate in financial controlling with a strong ambition to build and lead finance operations at a growing technology company in Prague. We seek an individual contributor with leadership potential to lead 3+ direct reports. You will work with the CFO to build modern financial controlling operations using automation tools & AI. The successful candidate will rise to Head of Finance, who will manage the finance operations of 2 entities and 5+ direct reports.

Strategic Expectations:

• Continue building modern financial controlling at Apify that captures all economic transactions and provides actionable reports
• Lead a team of 3 FTE and build up capacity as necessary
• Leverage technology (incl. AI) to work smarter
• Quality and accuracy of financial reports and budgets
• Quality of financial operations (AP, AR, tax, accounting)
• ERP transition + adoption of new productivity tools
• Productive relationships with business team-leads in the company
• Monitor day-to-day finance operations and resolve unique, complex inquiries involving cross-functional engagement
• Manage and apply internal controls to accounts payable & receivables
• Manage our budgeting framework: budgeting tools and workflows, incl. scope, structure, format, communication, and approvals
• Leverage technology (incl. AI) to work smarter
• Quality and accuracy of financial reports and budgets
• Quality of financial operations (AP, AR, tax, accounting)
• ERP transition + adoption of new productivity tools
• Productive relationships with business team-leads in the company
• Monitor day-to-day finance operations and resolve unique, complex inquiries involving cross-functional engagement
• Manage and apply internal controls to accounts payable & receivables

Day To Day Agenda:

• Organize the team's work and priorities
• Oversee data consistency in reporting (management, investor, financial, ad-hoc)
• Leverage the capabilities of our existing tech-stack to improve data quality, automation, and governance
• Actively seeks new technology and AI to work smarter
• Monitor business performance (KPI)
• Consistently apply integral controls and ensure compliance (inputs from tax and accounting)

• You have at least 5 years of experience in financial controlling
• You have experience with technology (or working for tech startups/scaleups)
• You have advanced proficiency in reporting, finance operations
• You have a solid understanding of accounting and tax
• You are a thinker and a doer in 1 person
• You can zoom out and resolve unstructured problems
• You challenge the status quo in a pragmatic way
• You have an open mind to experiment with AI, automation tools to make your work smarter
• You can handle fast context switching among multiple agendas and priorities
• You have advanced proficiency in Czech/Slovak and English

By the end of the first 3 months, we expect you to:

• Fully understand Apify's P&L and business model
• Fully understand monthly closings (process, deadlines, bottlenecks)
• Fully understand our reporting stack
• Navigate in our financial tech (accounting software, automation apps)
• Have positive feedback from the finance team
• Have identified bottlenecks and potential improvements in our financial operations

By the end of the first 6 months, we expect you to:

• Become the master of our reporting stack
• Fully own the monthly closings
• Become an admin of our finance tech stack
• Become a recognized finance partner at Apify; i.e. a person to go to for finance-related issues
• Have implemented 3 measurable improvements in our financial operations
• Have a roadmap for the financial controlling (incl. the team)
• Have consistently received positive feedback from the finance team
