We are looking for a Head of Engineering with experience working within the Payments Industry.

Runa is pioneering a first-of-its-kind payment rail that enables the seamless, global money movement at scale. Legacy banking and payment infrastructure struggles to support the demands of today's low-volume, high-velocity payouts, leading to inefficiencies in global payouts. Businesses worldwide send over $20 trillion annually in rewards, remittances, and disbursements often incurring costs of up to 50% per transaction and subjecting recipients to lengthy delays.

Runa transforms this landscape by providing a new digital payments infrastructure that empowers businesses to send digital money instantly and cost-free to anyone, anywhere. The Runa API empowers thousands of businesses to make payments to 5 billion+ consumers in 190+ countries instantly to cards, wallets, bank accounts and gift cards. Leading companies such as Sodexo, TopCashback, Perkbox, Sweatcoin, Coinbase, and Globetopper rely on Runa to facilitate instant, flexible global payouts to tens of millions of consumers.

About The Role:

As a Head of Engineering, you will oversee multiple engineering teams within our Treasury domain, managing managers and senior engineers while shaping the technical direction of our platform. Reporting directly to the CPTO and as part of the Runa Leadership Group (RLG), you will play a key role in advancing innovation, efficiency, and operational excellence, ensuring your teams deliver high-impact solutions in a fast-paced fintech environment.

You’ll combine strategic direction with hands-on technical guidance, especially in architectural decision-making, supporting teams to continually drive modern engineering practices and scale our systems with resilience, performance, and security at the core.

Our Tech

We have Python and TypeScript services running across Kubernetes (EKS) and Lambda functions. Our persistence is largely Aurora (Postgres) but new services will also be leveraging DynamoDB and their event triggers.

However, we understand the dynamic nature of technology and recognize that skills in any programming language is a valuable asset, which is why we are open to any programming background.

  • Demonstrated success supporting managers as well as senior IC’s, with a passion for coaching and driving high performance.
  • Strong technical depth, able to guide architectural conversations and advocate modern engineering practices.
  • Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, driving adoption of modern engineering practices and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Evidence of influencing strategy and business outcomes beyond engineering, contributing to broader company growth.
