The Medical Assistant is a full-time member of the healthcare team and assists clinicians and staff in providing the highest level of care and service to patients. The Medical Assistant performs a wide array of duties in supporting patient services and clinical care in the health center, including front office, intake, medical assisting, laboratory, and other clinical services. This role provides clinical, educational, and administrative services under the direction of the Health Center Manager and clinician in accordance with PPSE Medical Standards and Guidelines as well as State and Federal Regulations. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Back OfficeProvides patient counseling and education for all servicesExplains medical tests and procedures and obtains informed consent Allows patient to explore feelings and ask questions regarding findings and decisions while demonstrating empathy and being non-judgmentalCompletes necessary forms and counseling notes; provides referral information as neededPrepares exam rooms including setting up the rooms up properly before clinic begins and proper breaking down and cleaning of exam rooms at the end of clinicReviews medical history forms with patient and assists with obtaining patient history, exam related information, and educationCompletes required visit forms and documentationPrepares patient for their visit and supports patient during the visit, including instructing patient on what to expect and assisting the clinician with the visit and/or procedureObtains patient vitals (height, weight and blood pressure)Prepares and performs all in-scope and allowable lab tests and requisitions for clinicianDocuments lab results in patient charts and lab logKeeps the lab clean, safe, and stocked with suppliesMaintains instruments and equipment per protocols for cleaning, disinfection, and sterilizationMaintains Quality Control recordsMaintains clean and neat clinical work spaces QUALIFICATIONSEducation and ExperienceRequired - 2 years experience in healthcare, preferably sexual and reproductive healthRequired - Electronic Health Record experiencePreferred - Abortion and family planning experiencePreferred - Certified Medical Assistant, Surgical Tech, or LPN SkillsAbility to handle stress in a calm and professional manner, gracefully manage multiple projects, able to meet multiple deadlines, and comfortable working independently and as part of a teamAttention to detail and follow through on assigned work is essentialExcellent communication skills Strong computer skills, including practice management software, MS office, and internet/email PHYSICAL DEMANDSAbility to sit and/or stand for long periods of time as needed while working in a clinical and office environment. Ability to lift 20 pounds.
