Job Description
As the Market Research Analyst, you will shape how Nearmap understands and anticipates the needs of our customers, markets, and competitors. This role focuses on uncovering insights that guide product strategy, roadmap prioritization, and go-to-market alignment.
In this role, you will partner with product managers, go-to-market teams, and executives to answer critical questions about what to build, who to build it for, and why it matters. Collaborating with customers, analysts, and internal teams across North America and Australia/New Zealand, you will turn complex signals into clear recommendations that help Nearmap stay ahead of the market and deliver exceptional value.
You will work closely with Product Managers and GTM leaders, to inform planning, validate direction, and ensure alignment between customer needs and product execution. You’ll collaborate with the Data & Analytics team to design and interpret research, with Sales and Customer Success to surface insights from the field, and with Marketing to sharpen messaging and positioning. Your work will help unify the organization around a shared understanding of the market, our customers, and our competitive landscape.
You will engage directly with customers, prospects, and industry experts to uncover insights that inform product direction and strategic decisions. This includes leading interviews, coordinating surveys, attending industry events, and analyzing public market and competitor signals. Your work will ensure that Nearmap remains deeply connected to the people we serve and the markets we operate in, bringing the voice of the customer and the dynamics of the industry into every product conversation.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and conduct interviews, surveys, and observational research to uncover customer needs and pain points.
- Partner with Customer Success and Sales to surface recurring themes from the field.
- Analyze industry trends, market size, growth drivers, and buyer behavior to inform strategic decisions.
- Identify emerging technologies, regulatory shifts, or adjacent opportunities that may influence Nearmap’s roadmap.
- Create structured market segmentation models to help prioritize focus areas.
- Track and evaluate competitor offerings, positioning, pricing, and go-to-market strategies. · Analyze shifts in competitor strategy and communicate potential risks or opportunities.
- Partner with Sales and Marketing to refine messaging and differentiation based on competitor insights.
- Partner with Product and Strategy to inform multi-quarter planning and investment decisions.
- Support executive briefings with timely and relevant insights about market dynamics.
- Facilitate alignment between cross-functional teams through shared understanding of strategic context.
Qualifications
- 2–5 years of experience in product research, market analysis, customer insights, analyst role or a related strategic role.
- Candidates should demonstrate an analytical mindset, with the ability to investigate open-ended questions, synthesize information from diverse sources including geospatial data, and connect insights to product or business strategy.
- Strong communication skills are essential, with a track record of translating research into clear, actionable recommendations.
- Familiarity with customer discovery methods such as interviews and surveys is expected.
- Strong industry knowledge in property, facilities management, engineering & construction, and/or public sector use cases and workflows.
- Successful candidates will be comfortable working cross-functionally with product, GTM, and executive teams to align insights with decision-making.
- Strong research, analytical reasoning, and written communication skills, with an ability to turn insight into narrative.
- Experience with tools like Excel; familiarity with platforms like Snowflake or Jupyter Notebook, or light SQL is a plus.
- Awareness of trends in data-driven products, including AI, machine learning, geospatial analysis, or climate risk.
- Comfort working through technical or domain-heavy topics by partnering with engineers, analysts, or external experts.
- Ability to spot patterns in customer feedback, market movement, or product usage and connect them to actionable opportunities.
- Skilled at balancing rigor and speed, knowing when to go deep and when to deliver directional insight that moves the conversation forward
- Strong interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration.
- Confident engaging with engineers, data scientists, and marketing.
- Clear communicator who can translate technical topics into business-relevant language.
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
