Operational Risk Specialist – ING NL NFR (Business Banking, Wholesale & Staff)

NFR is more relevant than ever, and we are looking for a proactive and decisive Non-Financial Risk Specialist to join the Operational Risk Management (ORM) team for Business Banking, Wholesale Banking NL, and Staff Departments.

The Team

The ORM BB, WB NL, and Staff Departments team consists of 8 members, led by an Expert Lead, and is part of the NFR NL Tribe, which includes 37 colleagues based in Amsterdam. The NFR NL Tribe is part of the Risk organization of ING Netherlands.

The objective of the ORM team is to challenge and advise the respective business units to help ING stay safe and secure from an operational risk perspective while executing and delivering on the ING NL Strategy. To achieve this, you will work closely with colleagues from Business Banking, Wholesale Banking, and Staff Departments, including Tribe Leads and ExCo members.

Role And Responsibilities

You will be directly responsible for one of our priority tribes and, together with other team members, support the remaining tribes. At NFR NL, we apply a Risk-Based Approach, focusing on the most material risks and those of strategic importance. As a team member, you will help execute this strategy and apply these principles daily, meaning you dare to make decisions and focus on the most significant operational risks.

Collaboration is central to this role. In addition to working with team and business colleagues, you’ll collaborate with peers from Information Risk Management (IRM), the Operational Design Control Resilience (ODCR) team, Group Risk, Compliance, and our global Risk Hubs.

As an NFR Specialist, you will:

• Proactively support your colleagues and act as an ORM Specialist for ING NL Business Banking, Wholesale Banking NL, and Staff Departments.
• Represent NFR in relevant local committees and governance processes (e.g., RCSAs, REM meetings, NFRD and NFRC, Events, Issues and Lessons Learned, Scenario Analysis, Product Approvals, Projects).
• Contribute proactively to the new NFR Risk-Based Approach Strategy.
• Challenge and advise (local) business units on NFR risk exposure and the adequacy of NFR risk management in relation to ING NL products and processes. Ensure the business units under your responsibility are either within risk appetite or have clear paths to green, and follow all NFR Group policies and procedures.
• Establish mandatory policies and/or written guidance on the appropriate implementation and embedment of NFR-related requirements.

• Fluency In English

• A university degree or equivalent, and at least 5 years of relevant experience.
• A strong connection to ING’s Orange Code—you are honest, prudent, and responsible.
