Mō te tūranga | About the Role
At Westpac, we’re committed to maintaining the highest standards of integrity and compliance. As part of a pan-bank initiative run by Consumer Banking and Wealth, we’re seeking experienced AML Consultants to join our dynamic project team.
This role is all about being on the phone—every day, all day. You’ll be speaking directly with customers, gathering information, and solving problems. If you’re comfortable handling challenging conversations, staying calm under pressure, and finding solutions even when customers are frustrated or upset, this could be the perfect fit for you. While this isn’t solely a contact centre role, it does require the same resilience, communication skills, and customer focus.
Key Responsibilities
- Review customer information for completeness and accuracy
- Update customer profiles accordingly
- Engage directly with customers over the phone to obtain required information and verification documents—sometimes in challenging situations.
- Remain calm, professional, and solution-focused, even when customers are upset or resistant.
- Collaborate with stakeholders across the network, including the CB&W and IBB Risk teams, Relationship Managers, and customer-facing teams.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of AML/CFT policies and procedures.
- Provide expert guidance to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
Nā tāu rourou | What will you bring?
- Proven experience in customer service roles (especially phone-based) within financial institutions.
- Confidence and resilience when dealing with difficult or upset customers—always working towards a positive outcome.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think on your feet.
- Understanding of KYC and AML compliance requirements, with a focus on customer due diligence.
- 2+ years’ relevant experience in a similar level role.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and completeness.
If you thrive on the phone, enjoy solving problems, and can stay positive and professional in tough conversations, we’d love to hear from you!
